- About Bag Sort
I will no longer maintain this or any of my addons after December 2008. If you have one or more addons on curse.com and are interested in committing to the maintenance of one or more of my addons, please send me a private message.
Important Changes in 2.0
1. All bags are now sorted, including special-purpose bags.
2. You can now sort your bank when the bank window is open with /banksort.
3. Sorting is MUCH faster and slightly smarter.
Summary
Tired of digging through your bags for that elusive quest item and painstakingly rearranging items to maintain some semblance of organization?
Fret no more! Bag Sort will quickly and easily sort your bags and bank with quick slash commands. Your trade goods, vendor trash, auction house loot, quest items and reagents will quickly hop into an easy-to-understand layout, ready for that next trip to the auction house and merchant. There's no setup necessary, and no weird 'fake' bags to deal with. Just /bagsort or /banksort and watch your bags sort themselves!
Usage
No setup necessary. Just type /bagsort at any time to sort your bags, or /banksort while your bank window is open. The sorting process takes only a few moments in the worst case, and will be faster if you've sorted recently.

AU518987077 saidif at all possible, can you look into figuring out why leather bags don't sort properly, like bag of many hides or even the leather workers satchel

jamyn saidIt works, you just have to update the version number inside the .toc file:
a) browse to your World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\Bag_Sort folder
b) double click "Bag_Sort.toc"
c) choose "open with program from list" or whatever (2nd option)
d) scroll down and choose wordpad / ok
e) open it with wordpad, see the line at the top that says:
## Interface: 20300
f) change that line to:
## Interface: 20400
g) save the file, restart wow. Have fun.

whitehusky3 saidI love this addon! A friend had me try Mr. Plow, but I didn't like it. Not only did it take forever to sort through my bags, but sometimes didn't sort it properly and would leave identical items in two different areas altogether (for example, a stack of heavy leather would be in bag 1 while another stack of heavy leather would stay in bag 4). BagSort sorts it the way I like, so I am continuing to use it.
I did find an issue, though. I recently bought and equipped a Bag of Many Hides on my Paladin. This addon does not work with that bag equipped because I get an error message from WoW saying, "Only Leatherworking items can go in that bag." Because the addon is trying to put items in there and doesn't realize there is an error, it is leaving my bags unsorted.

arrow821 saidThis mod is nice, but for OCD people like myself, this isn't exactly the way i want to sort my bags. Is it possible to add a setting feature to allow custom sorting? For example i like my mounts along with my hearthstone in my first bag.. regents and engineering stuff in second bag.. etc.

Reneg4d3 saidI have been looking through the source, and toying around with it, the part where I am stuck is I just need to under stand how you do your ranges, I hope you answers my email, So I can get to work on it.
I have a few questions...
1:
sortBagRange({-1, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5})
This is the BANK range
How do you calculate this, I have not found any pattern. It must be by rows and columns.
2:
sortBagRange({4, 3, 2, 1, 0})
This is the bags you have,
This I can see a pattern, or think I do, correct me if I am wrong, the 4 3 2 1 and 0 I think has to do with the fact that your backpack, the non bag is 0, and 1 is the first bag 2 is the second etc.
If you could explain to me the range you have set up, I will probably be able to add a guild function.
Thanks for your time,
Chris

BoyFrary saidThis AddOn's great and has just what I needed minus just one thing for me, I would like to sort my armour by min level and then item level so it's easy to find items for an alt when searching through my bank alts.
I have found that the itemname that is used in the code will return the following:
itemLevel
Integer - The item level of this item.
itemMinLevel
Integer - The minimum level required to use the item, 0 meaning no level requirement.
I think these are what I’m after.
I have also found the search order used in the code
newItem.sortString = newItem.sortString .. itemType .. itemSubType .. itemEquipLoc .. itemName
However before simply adding in the extra bits and changing the order I have noticed that there is no reference to the extra bits of info I need from itemname in the code
local itemName, _, itemRarity, _, _, itemType, itemSubType, _, itemEquipLoc, _ = GetItemInfo(itemLink)
is the _ (underscore) a place holder for the additional information supplied by iteminfo and would I need to add my itemLevel and itemMinLevel before I amend the newItem.sortString, if this is what I need to do could you let me know where the itemLevel and itemMinLevel should be placed?
Of course not being an AddOn writer I could be barking completely up the wrong tree and therefore any advise you could supply would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you, BoyFrary.

Gorehunter saidWell Bagsort places most of the items in the last bag & moves toward the 1st. I would like to have the option of setting mining pick, blacksmith hammer, etc in the very last slot, then have my other sets of armor in the next available slots, reagents after that, then food/drink in my backpack where I can easily use it. Someone else may want a completely different arrangement. It would just bne nice if a way to configure that was implemented.
On top of that, when it sorts items it does not place all herbs next to each other and all ore next to each other, etc... and instead sort of scrambles them with just the type of ore/herb all being together. The mod is great if you have a bank toon for just one type of item, but kind of useless if its just a general bank toon or a character you actually play.

ryanhamshire saidGorehunter: Are you running the latest version? I remember checking that particular element of sorting very intentionally before my last release. I verified that copper ore goes next to copper bars, tin ore next to tin bars, etc etc. Also, are you using the English client?

Gorehunter saidJust to add it also separates the different types of food/drink instead of placing them together. Any way you could change that?

Gorehunter saidThis mod is really nice, a bit more customazation would be great though... like having certain types of items at the bottom of your bags and other types at the top. Right now it has my mining pick in the 1st avail slot & my food a few bags in... would be nice to reverse that.

ryanhamshire saidGorehunter: Okay so the way it works is your valuable stuff is supposed to be pushed higher into your bags, while the stuff you'd want to ditch (sell to a vendor?) is pushed toward the bottom. The mining pick, skinning knife, etc are going to be placed higher in your bags next version, because presumably you don't want to sell them. Anyway, that's the reason your food goes up high rather than into your standard backpack. If you're having trouble finding your food when you need it, a good way to approach the problem is to drag your food/water to one of the bonus action bars, which you can turn on in the interface options menu. Now you can get to them faster, and the button never moves. :)
