v2.2.5: Bug fix, TOC update

This release fixes a bug which caused AuraMap to unregister certain events across all Ace addons instead of doing so internally (e.g. causing Omen to lock to Global threat instead of switching as different mobs are targetted). The TOC has also been updated to version 2.3.0.

v2.2.4: Crusader Aura, Performance Improvements

The following changes have been made in this release:

  • support for the Paladin's Crusader Aura has been added. Note that - because the Filter Self Auras options are loaded from saved variables, and this aura wasn't present previously - you may need to manually enable Crusader Aura the first time the new version of AuraMap is run.
  • some small miscellaneous performance improvements

v2.2.3 r3: Extended, Context-Sensitive Command-Line Options, Bugfixes

This release focuses on enhancing the slash-command interface and implementing some miscellaneous bigfixes:

  • release 3 fixes a bug which could, under certain armor configurations, cause the tier 2 Paladin aura extension bonus not to be detected; it also updates the TOC for the recent 2.0.3 patch
  • release 2 fixes a bug which caused all party auras to be displayed on top of one another in battlegrounds and instances
  • further functions have been added to AuraMap's command-line interface, making it equivalent to the minimap-button GUI
  • the available command-line options will now change according to the player's class, party members, etc; see the screenshot below
  • some miscellaneous performance improvements have been implemented

v2.2.0: "Mouse-Through" Auras and Command-Line Interface

AuraMap has undergone some significant changes since the last version. Among the new features are the following:

  • the ability to configure the addon via a new command-line interface, and to hide the minimap button
  • a reworking of the GUI components, so that the AuraMap overlay no longer prevents mouse interaction with minimap elements such as herb/mining spawns, party members, etc.
  • a reduction in the number of events for which the addon is registered, leading to slightly improved performance
  • a rewrite of the warlock aura-dragging code to improve performance

For more details, see the changelog!

v2.1.1: Variable Reference Mark

The following features have been added to AuraMap:

  • the ability to set the previously static 30-yard reference mark to any radius in the range 10-100 yards
  • a bugfix for an issue introduced in 2.1.0, whereby manually selecting "None" for a party member's aura could cause an error.

v2.1.0: Localisation, Aura Filters and "Show Only in Combat" Options

AuraMap has now been localised to run on French, German and Spanish clients. German menu translations are included in the build; French and Spanish users can provide their own menu translations by editing the AuraMapLocale.fr.lua and AuraMapLocale.es.lua files, respectively. If anyone wishes to supply me with translations, I'll add them to future releases!

Aside from localisation, the two major changes in version 2.1.0 are

  • the ability to have AuraMap autohide itself until you enter combat or target a hostile character, and
  • the ability to filter which of your own auras you do and do not wish to display.

AuraMap: Addon Description

AuraMap is designed to visualise the ranges of aura-like effects for paladins, locks, hunters and druids, together with the healing ranges of all relevant classes, on the game minimap. If any other party members are using AuraMap, it will synchronise with their auras; if not, the user can manually set the aura in use by each member, configurable either via a minimap-button menu or console commands. The user may opt to have AuraMap autohide itself until entering combat or targetting a hostile opponent, and can specify which of their own auras they wish to display or hide when active. The addon will also optionally display an adjustable, general-purpose reference mark around the player's minimap position, useful for gauging distances and for avoiding certain boss abilities in raid encounters - in BWL for instance, the range indicators will easily allow you to position yourself within healing range of the tank while remaining outside Nefarian's AoE Fear radius. Finally, AuraMap will replace the standard minimap party position indicators with class icons.

Effects:

  • Paladins: Devotion, Retribution, Concentration, Shadow, Frost, Fire and Sanctity auras. AuraMap will also scan your gear changes and talent build to determine whether you have either Aura Mastery or the Judgement 3-set bonus, and will adjust your aura radius accordingly.
  • Warlocks: Blood Pact and Paranoia. Since these auras originate from the minion rather than the player, and since the WoW API does not allow addons to query the position of pets, the aura will be placed over the lock himself while the pet is in "Follow" mode. If the lock instructs his pet to wait at a fixed position, the aura will be "dropped" at that point; any inaccuracy in the placement can be corrected manually by dragging the aura to the correct position.
  • Hunters: Aspect of the Wild, Trueshot Aura, Aspect of the Pack.
  • Druids: Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack, Tree of Life.
  • Shamans: reroll Alli ;-P No support for totems yet, although I intend to add this in a future version.

During instances and battlegrounds, the WoW API does not return any co-ordinates; you will, therefore, not be able to see your party's auras as you can during World boss encounters and PvP, but your own auras and healing ranges will still be available. I'm currently investigating an approach to placing auras within instances using minimap pings, but this might not be possible.

The addon has been thoroughly tested for paladin and warlock effects; as you can see in the screenshots, I've been using it during raids myself. I haven't been able to test as much with the Druid and Hunter auras, but these should work fine as well. Feedback is always welcome! :-)

Update: I think this is because my mimimap was too close to the edge of the screen.

Might explain why Omen never worked for me as well...

    Hey Antiarc,

Thanks for letting me know about this; I've implemented a quick fix, and I'll rewrite it a little more when I have a bit more time. Considering the event in question, was this causing Omen to lock to Global threat instead of showing per-mob tables? I'd been experiencing this very problem myself, so it's both pleasant to be rid of it and embarrassing to find out that I caused it. I've tested version 2.2.5 with Omen and it works perfectly.

So... sorry for breaking your addon there. My bad. ;-P

  • Nov. 27, 2007, 07:14PM (7 months, 3 weeks ago)

Yup, that's exactly what it was. Unregistering that event from the Ace2 event frame meant that no ace mods got that event, which happens to be the event Omen uses to decide whose threat list to show.

No worries about the mistake - we all make 'em. I once replaced the "pairs" global function with a variable named "pairs" in another mod of mine and then had people on my back for breaking their entire UIs at seemingly random places. :)

    Do NOT use this addon.

It breaks Threat.-1.0, and by breaking Threat-1.0, it breaks Omen.

It probably also breaks a ton of other addons, too.

To elaborate, in AuraMap_RegisterOnlyCombat(), you have the following code:

    this:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_TARGET_CHANGED");
    ...
    this:UnregisterEvent("PLAYER_TARGET_CHANGED");

However, due to your code path, "this" is "AceEvent2.0Frame". You are completely unregistering PLAYER_TARGET_CHANGED for -all- Ace mods, not just your own.

You can fix this a couple of ways. The "hacky" way is to just assign "this = _G["Aura0"] at the top of the function. The correct way is to fix your call stack so that either "this" is the correct reference, or just use AceEvent and let it do all the dirty work.

Galaphile & Mufasa: Yep! I'm planning to add FuBar and totem support, but I've been busy with various work projects for the last while.

Namtrab: Are you sure you aren't running an addon that could prevent errors from being displayed? Like Swatter or something similar. There's no reason why the right-click wouldn't work, unless it's a conflict with something else that's installed.

Morak: Is the aura not displayed at all, or is it off-center on the minimap? The addon should work with non-circular maps, although the button will move in a circle when you drag it around the edges of the minimap.

This is an awsome addon... can u please add totem auras for sharmans

  • April 17, 2007, 11:08PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

DanathQG: Nope, unfortunately there's no way to do this through addons.

Crusadebank: The addon can't do the class symbols inside instances for the same reason that it can only display your own auras while instanced - because the API doesn't return co-ordinates within instances. The class symbols work by overlaying the icon on the player positions, since the API won't let you change the minimap icons themselves; you can only do this on the World map, for some inexplicable reason.

I use SCT myself, and the features you describe seem to work fine... at least, I get notifications of who's healing me and when I enter and leave combat.
