  • About Recap (Hawksy)
  •

Recap records damage, healing, and other combat-related events in the area around the player.

  • When installing Recap, please first remove any existing Recap folder from your "World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns" folder.
  • If experiencing problems with Recap, sometimes it is a bug, and sometimes your saved variables file may be damaged. It is always worth seeing whether removing the saved variables file fixes the problem. To do that, exit the game and go into your "World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/<accountname>/SavedVariables" folder and remove the "Recap.lua" and "Recap.lua.bak" files.
  • The copy of Recap on WoWAce is seriously out of date. I apologize for the inconvenience. Someone else had been uploading for the convenience of WoWAce Updater users, and appears to be afk. I will see if I can get the necessary permissions to upload to WoWAce.

When reporting a bug, please mention the version number, and double-check it by looking at the bottom of the Recap Options panel.

__ New in 4.07 __

  • Replaced four option settings (Only Friendly Combatants, Only Party Combatants, Only Player Combatant, and Store Only Friends / Party / Player) with three settings (Hide Group, Hide Other Combatants, and Store Only Displayed Combatants). Hide Group and Hide Other Combatants are both off by default. The group members are shown in green on the main fight panel and include party members, raid members, their pets and controlled mobs, and former members. Most references to 'Friendly' combatants have been modified to refer to 'Group' combatants.
  • Recap now omits intra-group damage (such as Shatter in Gruul's Lair) from the 'Out' column on the main fights panel, and from the Outgoing Details tab. This removes this kind of damage, which is not representative of what the combatant can do, from their DPS. The damage is still tracked in the 'In' column, and on the Incoming, Source, and Target Details tabs.
  • Recap now tracks dispels (which includes the deliberate and accidental breaking of crowd control) with the Recent Events. If you hold down the control key while either double-clicking the combatant row on the main fights panel, or while clicking on a combatant's Recent button, the Recent Events popup panel will be filtered to show only the dispels (Outgoing or Incoming) for that combatant.
  • Double-clicking on the totals row on the main fights panel will now bring up the Recent Events popup panel with ALL recent events. This may be slow on older machines if you have the recent events slider set to a high value. Holding down the control key while double-clicking on the totals row will bring up the Recent Events popup panel with ALL recent dispels. This should be fast.
  • Bug fixes.
  • Five modules from Ace2 (r67789) included.

__ New in 4.06 __

  • In the popup Details panel the information for same-name pets is amalgamated (with Merge Pets on). This amalgamation will save time and memory. Details created by earlier versions of Recap are not amalgamated.
  • All multi-line posts to chat are now limited by the "Report in Multiple Rows" slider (on the Options / Reports tab, default 10 lines, maximum 100 lines). The option to concatenate multiple lines into one long line has been removed.
  • The code for generating live DPS and HPS numbers has been rewritten and should be more accurate. There is still at least one unresolved issue.
  • Bug fixes.
  • Five modules from Ace2 (r67789) included.
  • NOTES:
  • Most mage, warlock, and hunter pet ownership issues have been resolved, but there can still be orphan elementals, pets, or totems.
  • There is currently only one multiple rows slider. If you want to auto-post 5 DPS lines at the end of each fight, and then want to post 50 recent events manually, you will have to move that slider to 50 then back to 5.

__ New in 4.05 __

  • The All Fights panel no longer updates live while synchronization data is being received. There is a new timer that will update the panel a while after the last synchronization data has been exchanged. The timer is also used to auto-post data when synchronization is active.
  • Bug fixes.
  • Five modules from Ace2 (r66043) included.

I don't know if it's possible to do any filtering for special conditions, but when you die and turn into a ghost at Teron in BT, the huge amount of damage you do as a ghost, is also recorded.
It would be nice if that damage was not recorded, since you can't really count on the total damage for the entire run, after having done Teron.

    so here we go:

    bug:
    http://www.losthero-online.de/images/wow/recap_bug.jpg

    settings:
    http://www.losthero-online.de/images/wow/recap settings.jpg

i dont think this bug is caused by a specific option in the settings, because i had many many different recap configs since recap exists and i cant remember a time, where this bug DIDNT appear (i just always forgot to report it, but now its anoying ;)).

it looks like someone messed up the variables called to report ;).
the "DPS" part seems to be the DPS IN thingy,
while the MAX HIT part seems to be the DMG DEALT part
and so on, i guess you got the picture ;).

    LostHero:

Thanks for the report. There is a mismatch between the English report pattern and the German report pattern. That will be fixed in the next version.

Game hungs on startup from last version like crazy! I disable recap and game loads... Cant really give any more feedback. :S

    H0PE:

Try removing the saved variables file. To do that, exit the game and go into your "World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/<accountname>/SavedVariables" folder and remove the "Recap.lua" and "Recap.lua.bak" files.

This resets everything, and you'll have to choose your options again.

If that doesn't get Recap working again, delete the Recap folder in the AddOns directory, and then download and install a fresh copy of Recap.

when i shift klick on myself in the DPS part of the list in order to post it to the chat, recap seems to completly mess up with the values...

    example:

    i am in a 5 men group.

i dealt 100k dmg and have currently 900 dps displayed in recap (the list seems to be correct).

when i now open the chatbox and than shift + leftclick on my own dps (not the "post all dps thin!) recap posts something like

"ulathar dealth 100k dmg (xy% of all dmg dealth) and does 115 dps, he took abcdef dmg" and so on.

as you can see, the DPS part of the report is completly wrong / inconsistent with the numbers shown in the Recap list!

this happens for ALL members in the list, not only my self.

wenn i post ALL combatants DPS using shift + left click on the DPS collum, the numbers are ok, but when i only report ONE SINGLE combatant, its broken...

hope you can understand what i try to say, if not, please tell me, i will take screenshots than ;).

    LostHero:

I understand what you're saying, but I can't get it to happen for me.

Do you have any more details of situation or settings in which this happens?

  • May 13, 2008, 07:56PM (2 days, 7 hours ago)

@hawksy it happens all the time, just do a reset, kill stuff in a group, report, see the differenz ;).

i will take some screenshots during this week, have not much time right now, where you can see my recap settings an what i click to report und the result that is posted.

PS: and i will test this with recap v4.07, used the 4.06 since yesterday

  • May 4, 2008, 04:17PM (1 week, 4 days ago)

I have an issue with 4.07 where DPS tracking after the first fight (after I log in) is incorrect on my Shadowpriest. I'm not sure but it may not be separating fights correctly.

Edit: I deleted my old saved variables and it seems to be working fine.

  • May 4, 2008, 03:45AM (1 week, 4 days ago)

Don't know if this latest release fixed it, but there was an bug where you actually couldn't select single-line reporting, if you wanted to. It's always something I rather liked about Recap and I'd miss it, personally, if it were removed.

  • May 4, 2008, 08:57AM (1 week, 4 days ago)

    Anari-LB:

All the results run together on one or more chat lines, rather than exactly one result per line? Yes, that was deliberately removed in version 4.06.

I found the results run together on one long chat line extremely hard to read and understand.

Make a convincing argument for putting it back and I can do that.

    Working like charm!
    Thanks for quality coding Hawksy.

  • May 3, 2008, 02:06AM (1 week, 6 days ago)

    Version 4.07 is now available.

Intra-group damage (such as Shatter in Gruul's Lair) no longer counts towards a group member's outgoing damage and DPS.

Recap now tracks both sides of dispelling (which includes the deliberate and accidental breaking of crowd control) if you are using the Recent Data Mode. Note that recent event information is not saved across a re-log or a UI reload.

You can limit the recent events popup to show *only* recent dispelling for one combatant by holding down the control key while either double-clicking on the combatant's row or clicking the combatant's Recent button.

You can see *all* recent dispelling by holding down the control key while double-clicking on the total row of the main fights panel.

Some options that limit what Recap displays and stores have been re-labelled to make them easier to understand and use. See the options Hide Group, Hide Other Combatants, and Store Only Displayed Combatants on the Options / Settings tab.

Later note: The copy of Recap on WoWAce is seriously out of date. I apologize for the inconvenience. Someone else had been uploading for the convenience of WoWAce Updater users, and appears to be afk. I will see if I can get the necessary permissions to upload to WoWAce.

Your request is on my list of improvements to investigate.

Hey Hawksy, A while ago I suggested implementing an option to still show Pets Damage when Merge Pets is on, so you can track the total DPS of a hunter, and track the DPS of the hunter's pet to allow investigation if the pet needs to be "tweaked". I got the feeling you were going to look into this. Any update on it?

Keep up the good work btw. This is at the top of my list of must haves. :)

i have set recap to auto-minimize in the top left corner and to show status light, "Last/All" and dps with no background when minimized... but frequently (after every fight) the text disappears leaving a space between the status light and the dps. it fixes if i mouse over to expand and re minimize it

    please see here

    thanks a lot

    painstorm:

There are several things you can do.

The first is to use Reset often. This is what I do. If there is information you want to save before doing the Reset, you can save it for later inspection by using the Options / Data Sets tab.

The second is to enable the "Limit Fights to Combat" option after doing a Reset. I do this occasionally, especially in the Shattered Sun area.

The third is to enable one of the three display options "Only Friendly Combatants", "Only Party Combatants", "Only Player Combatant"; and at the same time enable the "Store Only Friends / Party / Player" option. Note that combatants already stored are not deleted, so doing this while you have a lot of combatants already stored will not help. Do a Reset first.

The fourth is to enable the "Ignore Global Unique Identifiers" option. Do a Reset first.

What exactly am I supposed to set in the options to not store a massive amount of entries?
I've checked "Store only Friends /Party...." and "Only Friendly Combatants", but still after every raid (next day) I get the "your log contains 6390 entries...." warning. It seems like no matter how I set the options it still stores every single mob I come across.

  • April 25, 2008, 02:57AM (3 weeks ago)

Hawksy: one other thing that is slightly bugging me:
Last Combat tab getting cleared when npc's in background are fighting (and taking damage), even though you (or your group/raid) is not in active combat.
Example: LastCombat stats cleared on me after a fast Teron kill in BT tonight, due to npc's fighting near Bloodboil.

I remembered you telling someone else to try "Only Fights with Duration" setting to get rid of stuff like that, and decided to try that out when mucking around on PTR tonight (idling on QD Isle), where the friendly npc's are fighting hostile npc's.
This setting seems to work somewhat towards eliminating that ambient garbage getting logged, _however_: the Last Combat tab is getting cleared anyway, displaying nothing instead. Which is midly annoying if you ask me ^-^

Unrelated, is it possible to copy lines from Recent window (to paste in chat or somewhere else)?

  • April 25, 2008, 06:06AM (2 weeks, 6 days ago)

    coani:

The setting to ignore nearby fights in which you are not involved is the "Limit Fights to Combat" option.

To post recent events to chat or elsewhere, shift+click, similar to other posting from Recap.

If you shift+click on the yellow heading in the Recent Events panel while you have a chat edit box open then you'll get the most recent N events posted (where N is the value of the "Report in Multiple Rows" slider).

If you shift+click on an individual event while you have a chat edit box open then that event will be posted.

As with any other post, if you have the Clipboard open then the post will go there instead. You can then copy from the Clipboard to somewhere outside WoW. See Options / Reports.
