  • About Quest Level v2.6
  •

Quote from the original Project Page:

This small addon adds the quest's level in front of it's name. Nothing more, nothing less. This isn't done by replacing the whole functions of the quest log. Instead it intercepts the call of the function returning the quests name, level, ... It then prefixes the name with the level. That's all. By doing so, it also works for the built in quest tracker.

What's new in v2.6:

  • Fixed a bug in the "suggested Player" caching.

does this quest show where the quest givers are on the map or show where to return the quest on the map? or does it have some kind of auto complete or something? like the quest giver will show up as a dot on your map

    Very nice addon. Thank you!

Version 2.5 is up, (re)added support for NPC's offering (eg: multiple) quest's through selection (see screenshot).

    This was broken as of ... hm ... je ... 2.1 i think !?!? ^^

Me again. Just a reinforcing post about...I hope you don't add quest track removal to this addon ;). Its _not_ a good idea as it has nothing to do with quest levels.

To make people who want all sorts of features (& bloat) added happy, your suggestion, DefKev, about splitting such features into a separate mod is a good idea :).

ahh now i see it, i think its a good idea to add this to the addon. Becouse of all the long quest. when its done its gone.. I hope you keep it added..

    Yes and No ...

This feature is only included in the version available at the BETA downloads, it's labled: "Quest Level Quest Watch v2.4"

I'm currently thinking about getting this into a separate addon, maybe something like "QuestWatchCleaner" without the need of an option to enabled/disabled it and a onscreen message telling you which quest you just completed ... well we will see, posting back later this day.

I cant turn the automaticaly remove quests thing? tryed /ql but nothing.. Did you add this or did you change your mind?

  • Zidomo said

Yes. But the problem with the "if you don't like it, don't use it" suggestion is that all that code that someone isn't using is still being loaded. Meaning more GUI memory is used by the mod, you have a longer logon time & possibly more CPU time is used when at a quest master.

Which is why I suggested keeping the additional unrelated features in a separate version of the mod. Which keeps the original spirit & intention of Quest Level alive. Removing quests from the tracker has nothing to do with displaying quest levels.

And it seems you have done this :). The original Quest Level is still there, with the added, unrelated feature in a beta version. Hope to see this continue as it; nice work :).

    Ok, one by one ...

    1. The addon has been updated to show the number of suggested members for "group/elite" quests which return this information, such quests will be shown somethink like this:

    [<QuestLevel>G<NumberOfSuggestedMembers>] <QuestName>

This counts for the questlog aswell as NPC's offering quests, if you have seen it before ofcourse.

A side note on this: As Zidomo allready posted, this seems to be limited - at least for now - to quests coming with the bc expansion (and i dont think blizz is in a hurry to change this).

    2. Don't expect me to add a feature to the addon that shows you your crit change or the amount of money in your bagpack, because it simply has nothing to do with quests at all and i am sure ther is allready an addon around doing such things - that sayed ...

the little "evil" thing i added in the 2.4b to automaticaly remove quests from the tracker on completion needs to be enabled to use it, so if you dont like it ... well then dont do this ^^

    @DefKev:

Really (really) appreciate your work with this (as I've mentioned before here)). Here's hoping it either continues to work well in the BC expansion and/or it will be updated for it in good time.

    Two things:

--In the BC expansion, some outdoor group quests come with a suggested number of players.

One quest level addon (Fizzwidget's new Levelator) adds this info to the shown levels. As in “[69G3]Destroy Naberius!” and so on.

So it would be nice to get the BC recommended player numbers added to the quest levels as that Levelator mod does. All that is doing is adding to the quest level information.

--That being said, I want to put in a vote for please (please) not to add to this mod extra features that have nothing to do with quest levels.

One of Elkano's main goals for this mod when he created it in 2005 (as can be seen in his comments from then on that other mod site) was to keep it simple. Show quest levels in a superior fashion to any other such mod, but that would be all it does.

So if you start adding user requests for extraneous features--like the recent "an option to automatically remove a quest from the tracker on completion"--put it in a separate "bloated" version of this mod that people can download from this page (in the beta versions, or whatever). Or as a separate mod.

Please keep the original Quest Level as it is, without extra features. Which is showing quest levels (and only showing quest levels) in a superior fashion to all other such mods.

Keep up the great work :).
