Hear Kitty, designed for rogues and druids, plays soothing but distinct orchestral sounds when you gain and spend combo points It's like having your own theme music! You won't have to watch for red combo dots; when you hear the final note played, you'll know it's time for a finishing move.
This file contains alternate low-volume versions of the Hear Kitty sounds. Instructions are included in the file (just copy the files in the pack over the sound files in the Hear Kitty folder).
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

VgerAN saidHear Kitty 1.1 is here! In this version, I've added a configuration UI in Interface Options for those whopping two settings that Hear Kitty has. And, probably more importantly, I've rewritten the way that Hear Kitty plays sounds to support rogue talents that allow you to gain more than two combo points at a time, Ruthlessness, which can give you a combo point after a finishing move, and also fixed bugs where sometimes multiple sounds would play simultaneously, making them hard to count. I recommend this update for everyone who uses Hear Kitty.

Psyboyo saidDear VgerAN,
HELP! It seems you have the knowledge to perform a miracle... I use Hear Kitty since the dawn of time, and it is the best there is. And still works for 2.4, wich is great. There is another mod I used a lot, lots of people use it, and that mod is BAM:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3107/
Now, Bam was so simple, like Hear Kitty: it trigered a sound everytime the player made a critical hit. BAM! that was it, and was great. It is not working anymore with 2.4, and I got me thinking, if Hear Kitty can manage sound so easely, integrating Bam critical mod shouldnt be that hard...
This ia a great fan of your sthat proposes a simple quest for you: can you make Hear Kitty detect player criticals and preform a audiable BAM along with it? :D
Thank you Kitty! ^^

VgerAN saidProbably not what you're looking for: Definitely something I'm looking into for the future. I've been working on Pawn a lot recently, but I might get back to Hear Kitty in a bit. I'm going to be pretty busy at work for a couple months, so I'm afraid I probably won't be making many changes to my mods until afterward.
(I think that reacting to combo points is probably quite a bit easier than reacting to crits, as watching for crits requires monitoring the combat log -- that's likely why BAM stopped working in 2.4.)

VgerAN saidHear Kitty is now at 1.0! I figured that it's been stable and full-featured enough for a while now to warrant a 1.0 release. The only big change in this version is that you don't need a separate VgerCore folder anymore; it's now embedded into every mod that needs it.

VgerAN saidNo new features; just an updated TOC and included version of VgerCore. The old version will work just fine. I haven't touched Hear Kitty much because I haven't played my druid in months. Once Wrath comes around I'm sure I'll get back to making Hear Kitty changes.

VgerAN saidHi all... I haven't abandoned any of my mods just yet; I just don't remember to check Curse as frequently right now. (I like wowui.incgamers.com since it's focused on WoW and not a dozen games I don't play, and the site isn't so slow. If you leave a comment or PM there I usually respond in under 24 hours.) I just uploaded version 0.2.1, which is a very minor change over previous versions.

Eldredd saidWell this addon works still but it looks like the author has more or less abandoned it. I'm going to give it a little while longer and if I don't hear anything I might have to start messing around with it.
EDIT: I looked around some and it appears that the addon has been updated on May 23 over on what used to be ui.worldofwar.net. (Guess it is wowui.incgamers.com now, looks like they got bought out)

Eldredd saidI absolutely love the sounds made by this AddOn. I am hoping that it will continue to work great with the upcoming patch. I guess I better get on the PTR and test it out. :)

Guillotine saidI have to say, this is probably one of the most useless addon ever, but I love it. Makes playing a rogue/druid so much more enjoyable :)
Kudos VgerAN!

Meximus saidDude this is the best rogue addon. I love it. The idea of sounds are great and you picked the right sounds for it. I have an idea that I really want implemented. That is, a sound for riposte. A sound alert for after we parry a move will be way better than any riposte alert addon. Well anyway with or without a riposte alert this is a kickass addon
