Introduction

This addon adds a visual fullscreen effects when your health or mana dips below certain values. If will try even harder when you get below a critical value. Sounds like nothing special? Well, you really have to see it in action.

Hunters and Warlocks rejoice! Low Health Warning can now show your pet's or demon's health in addition to your own.

See screenshots for a preview of the effects. The health and mana effects can be changed to use a larger texture. They can also be changed to smoothly increase or decrease the flash rate as you lose or gain health or mana. The pet effect is a green cone on the upper part of the screen (subject to change, feedback about this is appreciated).

There is a heartbeat sound effect for a more intense warning. Some might recognize this system from other games, but it hasn't been done in World of Warcraft as far as I know. The health flash will synchronize with the heartbeat if you set it to use smooth flashing and give it the same threshold as the sound.

Usage

/lowhealth (/lhw, /lowhealthwarning): opens the settings window.

is there any addon which is very simple just showing a sentence of "You are dying!!!" with big bold red blinking fonts on top of my char??? That's all I need..
This addon doesn't show any writing on my screen!

  • Aug. 16, 2008, 07:11PM (3 weeks ago)

This addon is not supposed to write anything on your screen. Use Blizzard's built-in combat text or SCT if you want letters.

Make sure you have installed the addon correctly. Here's a short tutorial: http://wow.curse.com/forums/details/22258/

Out of all the mods I use, I have to say this is in the top 5 of the most useful. The only part I don't like is the annoyance factor. I realize the whole idea of this mod is to alert you to low health, pet health and mana but I'd love to see an option where I can set the amount of warning I get from the mod.

Being full spec BM hunter I can run out of mana on long fights because I use mend pet, my sting shots, ect. It gets very annoying to have the screen flashing nonstop through a 3 or 4 mob fight and actually gets to be too distracting. I'd like to see an option that I can set the mod to warn me for say 3 to 5 seconds then stop since I that 3 to 5 seconds of the screen flashing got my attention. In a real bad fight where I'm low on health, my pet is low on health and I'm low on mana, all the different colors flashing nonstop almost cause me to lose my focus on the fight.

If a more customizable version was made, I'd love this mod even more than I already do.

You have some good ideas here. I've noticed the information overload problem myself (sometimes even without the pet effect).

I'll see what I can come up with.

As a Warlock, if your pet dies and despawns (after 10 seconds of being dead), it still shows the warning constantly.

There are times I want to Demonic Sacrifice the pet, but the warning won't stop flashing. Even if I turn off "Enable for Pets" after that point, it'll still flash the pet warning unless I ReloadUI.

Thanks for letting me know. This and a few other bugs will be fixed in the next update.

    Edit: 3.0.1 is available now.

Great addon, I forget to watch my HP bar sometimes, this fixes the problem.

Long time user, love your addon. :)

I'm looking at the new screenshots, and I have to ask: are the original textures still available? The new ones look like the textures that were used in some other similar addon I tried once, and I greatly prefer the original "smooth with subtle streaks" textures to these "busy" textures.

As for the pet health effect, I'd actually suggest using the same "screen edge" effect used for player health and mana, with a different color (green is fine) to distinguish it. Generally my pet's health is not as important as my own health, so it doesn't really make sense to make the pet health warning more prominent than the player health warning by sticking it in the middle of the screen. :P

I'm glad you like the addon. :)

I uploaded the original texture as a separate file to save some space. Just extract and drop it in the Texture folder and it will go back to how it looked in earlier versions.

As for the pet effect... the idea was to have one 'cone' in each direction (not only 'up' as the current pet effect). Let's say, a red health cone on the left side and a blue mana cone on the right side with pet health at the bottom, using only a single texture and rotating it. I't didn't really feel right when I tested it though, so I never bothered to add all of it. Anyway, see above comment for a quick lua hack to change the pet texture.

Thanks Limit. I love this add on. Simple and helps me stay alive (when I'm not paying attention to numbers).

Please note that the addon description and screenshots are outdated. I'm preparing an update for patch 2.4 to bring everything up to date again.

This is a pretty cool addon. Instead of constantly having to look at my health, i can just let the warning tell me when its getting low. I like the choice of frame graphic too.

    Great idea!

  • Nov. 15, 2007, 07:07AM (9 months, 3 weeks ago)

Patch 2.3 removed a frame this addon depends on. I'll update it when I have a replacement.

Edit: Version 2.3.1 has been uploaded and briefly tested. Let me know if you encounter any bugs.

One of my favorite mods, it doesn't seem to work anymore and not sure why, can you take a look at it?

There is no virus, trojan, or anything else that could possible cause an account to be banned in this addon. The zip file available here still is the original one I uploaded (I just downloaded it to verify), and it contains: - 3 lua and 2 xml files (the code) - 1 toc file (addon index file) - 2 tga files (textures) - 1 wav file (sound effect) - 1 txt file (readme, help)

None of these files can compromise your account. Sorry for your ban, mackoroni, but I'm certain my addon has nothing to do with it.
