- About TasteTheNaimbow
Note- A big thanks to AnduinLothar for converting TTN for TBC!
> [1. General][Somenoob]: ROFL nobode iz roling night elf warlocks nemore.
> To [Somenoob]: ... are you serious?
> [Somenoob] whispers: lolz ya i dun see nun
> {{{<GM>}}}[Cairenn] whispers: Greetings, this is Game Master Cairenn, what can I help you with?
> (Here I pressed the R button to reply without seeing the GM message)
> To [Cairenn]: Night elves can't BE warlocks
> {{{<GM>}}}[Cairenn] whispers: Yes, that is working as intended.
> To [Cairenn]: Wait! That wasn't my question >
The above is completely 100% true. So I started looking for an easy way to differentiate whispers ;)
I found Elkano's Colored Whispers (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=4519), but it had several problems. First, the colors changed over sessions. Second, most of the colors were unreadable.
So I created TasteTheNaimbow ^_^
TasteTheNaimbow is essentially Elkano's Colored Whispers with some very big changes.
What the addon does is color the name in ALL chat channels based on a cache of the person's name. This means that the color for the name will ALWAYS be the same.
Secondly, because I used an HSV formula to come up with a color, they are all bright, vibrant colors.
As of now, the addon has no options and should work with all chat channels. Please inform me if it does not.
This addon has Khaos support. You can enable/disable it using the Khaos menu. If you do not use Khaos, simply enable/disable it via the Addon button

Guillotine saidIf you are using Cosmos, make sure the AddOn is enabled in the Cosmos options as well as on the AddOn screen.
Otherwise, I would suggest going to WoW/WTF/Accounts/<YourAccount>/SavedVariables and deleting TasteTheNaimbow.lua and then reinstalling the addon.

scottg saidI love this mod! unfortunantly- it does not work with babelfish- somithing about it conflicts with babelfish's ability to read text in the chatbox and it will not translate it. i think because tastethenaimbow reads the chat text first (?), is this a fixable problem

Guillotine saidAs I put into the Changelog, TTN now affects Say and Yell. And I'm not marking any localized flags because it ISN'T localized. It just works with everything :) There is no language-specific anything in there (except Khaos options)

Guillotine saidNo bugs found in 1.4, so it has been moved to the Release category :)
Let me know if you find any!
Edit: Moved back to beta. Sorry all that downloaded it! Small bug where a color was different if you whispered a person before they spoke. That bug is fixed in 1.41

Guillotine saiddector: What other addons are you using? Even with 500 people whispering you in a session, TTN should slow you down about a tenth as much as something like Auctioneer or Lootlink and most people have no problems with those.
In the next patch of WoW, (2.1), we'll be able to check exactly what addon is taking up memory, so that should help with this type of thing.

dector saidHi... I'm not going to BS around here. I like your mod, a lot... but I have issues w/ extreme slow downs after being logged in for anywhere from two hours and up, and I did not have this problem before installing your mod. My sessions last very long because I don't have a life. After work, I relax for 4-8hrs right on WoW. In one session I can get tells from as many as 75-125 people per session and I think it is because of this that my cache rises significantly after an hour or so. I don't know about programming or efficiency, but I like your mod a lot. I wish I could use it all the time, but I have it enabled only for the characters I don't play for long periods of time, i.e. my priest. Just thought I'd let you know.

stimpak saidcashing the name colour wouldnt increase the memory usage of the mode over time? what if every person in the server whisper you? you'll end up having a table with colours-names for every and each one of them?
i'd suggest that since the names are always unique, use the name as input to generate an always same and unique colour-code?

Guillotine saidIt increases the memory usage yes, but FAR less than if we had to cache the name every time. Chances are you're not going to get a whisper from everyone on the server ;) If that starts happening, let me know and I'll change it.
For now though, this is the most efficient way. I doubt you get whispers from more than 50 people in one session.
