About FastQuest Classic

FastQuest Classic is originally called "FastQuest" and is written by Vashen. Vashen has left WoW after he released FastQuest 2.11. Then I picked it up and try to fixed some minor issues. Since that, FastQuest is released with version number like 2.11.1, 2.11.2, 2.11.3, etc.

When the TBC was going to be released in US and Europe, Vashen was back and he decided to continue the implementation. Vashen started the new FastQuest with version number 3.x and is supported with Titan and Fubar.

There are some players still love the classic FastQuest, including me. So I decide to rename the addon name to "FastQuest Classic" and is started from version 2.11.207.

Summary

This is an alternative to heavy duty add-ons like MonkeyQuest, Quest-I-On, etc. The difference is that the code is much smaller and faster, since it uses Blizzard's build-in components enhancing and improving them. But it does not have full set of features those addons offer, so try them and decide what is best for you!

Installation

Unpack the ZIP file to WoW\Interface\AddOns\ Make sure the folder name is "FastQuest_Classic"

Features

- Enhances Blizzard's Quest-Tracker! Automatically add current quests to QuestTracker and removes them when they complete. It will also reload your quests back if you log out and back in. This option is on by default and can be toggled by /fq autoadd. You can use RightClick or Shift+click Quest Names to Add/Remove quests manually. (/fq clear will remove all quest from the tracker)

- Adds formatting options for Shift+LeftClick / Crtl+LeftClick / Ctrl+RightClick into chat use /fq format to cycle though them. Allows "[10+] QuestName", "[10] QuestName (Elite)", etc

- Quests in Quest-Tracker are displayed in color that is based on difficulty. There are now over 20 shades of colors from bright green to bright red that are used to denote quest and monster difficulty. Quest that would be come trivial next level is highlighted giving you chance to complete it while it still yields exp.

- Automatically notify your party/guild/raid/people near of your quest progress (example: Thistle Boar Slain 5/7), this option is off by default and can be toggled by /fq autonotify

- Allows you to insert quest objectives of the selected quest into the chat. Open the chatbox and right click on the quest name. (check the screenshot above.) Control click on the quest name also lists objectives but in the shorter form, the way they are displayed in quest tracker.

- Allows QuestTracker window to be draged anywhere on the screen(use "/fq unlock" to enable draging and you can "/fq lock" to lock it in place). Dragging is enabled by default and it's side effect is removal of textwrap. So if you want to disable dragging use "/fq nodrag" followed by "/console reloadui"

- Automatically complete turn-in quests such as the once in AV that you have to turn in one by one. When you right click on the NPC to turn in quest FQ will click "Continue" and "Complete Quest" buttons for you, but will stop to let you pick reward if choice is given. The down side is that you will not be able to read what NPC's replies to you when you turn in your quest, but that's only to those who actually read it :) This feature is off by default and can be toggled by /fq autocomplete

    The Questracker in CTMod is not new in CTMod. The previous version from CTMod has this feature always and Fastquest works fine. But with the current version Fastquest does not go any longer.

  • Feb. 28, 2007, 11:49AM (1 year, 2 months ago)

    Well, that's right. CT_Core now contains quest level and some enhancement on questtracker.

    I think user need to make decision. Whether to use FastQuest or CT_Mods.

    With CT_Mods, you can also have the quest level info and also move the questtracker window. But you just can not have two addons which will all do the same (or similar) things on the same frames.

    I don't think that I have any thing to do.

    Any suggestion is welcome.

    The Module "CT_Core" from CTMod overriding FastQuests "movedot". i can't move the Questtext anything.

  • Feb. 28, 2007, 01:28AM (1 year, 2 months ago)

    The problem is with CT Core which has it's own built in quest tracking. This is overriding Fast Quest somehow and there is no option within CTMod to disable it. In previous CTmod versions I had this same issue but was able to still get Fast quest to work, but the latest version of CTMod is not letting me.

    I've had a poke around in the CTCore folder and it looks like the Lua file that controls quest tracking is CT_Core_Other.Lua However I'm not a coder and have no idea what to change in there to allow Fast quest to work again.

    Well, I think I need some more information which particular addon in CTMod is having problem with FastQuest. Could you try to disable the CTMod addons one by one to figure out which one has the problem?

  • Feb. 24, 2007, 11:23AM (1 year, 2 months ago)

    Fastquest has problems with the new CTMod 2.001. I can't move/drag the Questtext with the Mouse on the green dot, after i install CTMod Version 2.001 (new released today). Please can you check this and fix the problem. Thanks

  • Feb. 21, 2007, 12:36AM (1 year, 2 months ago)

    Thanks PontusM. I upload a beta in the Source tab to include the Quest Collapsing issue. Anyone who is interested may get it and install it manually.

    In case you can find the link, below it is: http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/files/downloads/28521/

    Interestingly enough, even though FastQuest didn't show up in my addons list on the login page, FastQuest continued to work for me.

    The changes you recommended stopped the unwanted messages, and everything is peachy-keen!

    Thanks!

    I really like this addon better than the original so therefore I decided to fix the problem with not being able to collapse the quest log headers. (Someone posted a fix here earlier but the post seems to be cut off?) Anyway, here's my solution...

    Replace the following text on line 306: if ( isHeader ) then return; end;

    Replace it with these lines: if ( isHeader ) then

      if ( isCollapsed ) then
         ExpandQuestHeader(qIndex);
      else
         CollapseQuestHeader(qIndex);
      end
      return;

    end

    Thank you, sir!

    I fixed the Collapsing bug earlier on mine and now I can switch withc quest om looking at. IT works after loading the interface but after a while it bugges and is locked to one quest.

    In reply to SirCasey,

    Well, a dirty but quick way is to modify the pattern strings.

    Since you don't want the "Discovered xxx" being notified, then modify the string to some meaningless one, for example: Original: FQ_EPA_PATTERN5 = "^Discovered: .+$"; Modify to: FQ_EPA_PATTERN5 = "^DDiscovered: .+$";

    Same way for the experience gained: Modify to: FQ_EPA_PATTERN4 = "^EExperience gained: .+$";

    Hope this helps.

    I love fastquest! It's a real timesaver being able to autonotify my party members of my status on the quest we're working on...

    I would like to make a suggestion though- I don't much care for it auto-notifying my party for everything I do. In particular, they don't need to know how much experience I gained with a turnin, nor do they need to know I just discovered Elwynn Forest. Woot!

    Is there any way you could split up the different things that give notifications and allow me to turn some of them off?

    I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks,

    ~SirCasey

    In reply to SirCasey, Well, if you don't like those events being notified, you may manually edit the localization.en.lua file (if your client is English).

    Locate below lines:

    FQ_EPA_PATTERN1 = 	"^(.+): %s*[-%d]+%s*/%s*[-%d]+%s*$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN2 = 	"^(.+)\(Is now complete\)%s$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN3 = 	"^(.+)[^Trade]completed.$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN4 = 	"^Experience gained: .+$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN5 = 	"^Discovered: .+$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN6 = 	"^(.+)\(Completed\)%s$";
    FQ_EPA_PATTERN7 = 	"^Quest accepted: .+$";

    In your comments, you don't like below events being notified: 1. you discover some new place 2. you gain how much experience We now get the message IDs: FQ_EPA_PATTERN4, FQ_EPA_PATTERN5

    Then, open FastQuest.lua, and locate below lines:

    local EPA_TestPatterns =
    {
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN1,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN2,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN3,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN4,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN5,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN6,
    	FQ_EPA_PATTERN7,
    };

    Remove FQ_EPA_PATTERN4, FQ_EPA_PATTERN5.

    Thanks for the response... I tried, as you suggested, to remove the indicated lines of code from the Fastquest.lua file, and reloaded WoW twice. Both times in the Addon configuration window, Fastquest is not showing up in the list.

    I double checked to make absolutely certain I edited the file in the correct folder, and I am also loading out of date addons.

    It's just not there.

    Any suggestions?

    Hmm, autoadd works fine for me. Did you already set "/fq autoadd"? If you are not sure, try to type "/fq status" first and see what is set for your character.

  • Feb. 2, 2007, 05:01AM (1 year, 3 months ago)

    The autoadd is not working for me.. I'm not getting errors or anything, I just have to re-track the quests every time I login. This is one of the main reasons I chose this addon..anyone else have a fix?

  • Feb. 1, 2007, 10:55PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

    No, if you delete this line, the collapsing will still not work. This line checks to see if you are clicking on a quest category, and if NOT so, it shows the quest info on the panel below.
