This will add a small button attached to the chatframe which opens the ChatCopy-frame (as seen on the screenshot). You can copy'n'paste text from there like IPs or links or whatever ;) (note: [Ctrl]+[C] copies the text to the windows clipboard in case you didn't know. [Ctrl]+[V] will paste the text)
I made this because it is really annoying if someone gives you a link or an ip for voicechat in WoW since you cannot copy it from the chat window.
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Chitt saidI love this mod, the ability to capture emotes makes it the perfect way of recording scenes in the life of your character, or in my case, record interviews for the Alliance Herald Newspaper and Gizmopolitan.
I would like the ability to set the number of lines recorded more easily - I usually want to have it on 20,000 lines if I am recording a major rp event and that's a pain to click up!
Thanks for keeping it up to date!

bitbiter saidhi there! I'm sorry i took such a long break......... But I started working on a new version of ChatCopy now. I will pretty much merge ChatCopy and EasyCopy, and even add some more functionality for chat such as an easier way to "quote" ppl in wow.
Would be cool if you guys could post some ideas as well!

Unlauk saidThere seem to be a problem with the download of this mod. I receive this message when I try to download it "There don't seem to be any mirrors for this file!". I got the same message when I tried to download the 2.0 Beta (first one was 1.3).
I really like this addon so keep up the good work :)

Feleye said@Rimas It works in 2.0 (tested 2.0 beta version of mod), the only thing you need to do is change the ToC version to 20000 and it works.
@bitbiter Are you going to upgrade version 2.0 for new channels anytime soon?

bitbiter saidHi guys... Just saw that ChatCopy got quite some downloads ^^ so i spent a few minutes to update the source to show the raid leader and raid warnings.
Would it be apreciated if i'd add the possibility to change the color and transparency ingame? If so, i'll add it.

DIE-HARD saidYou mean it isn't [Ctrl] + [C] = Copy? Or is [Strg] just some other language's version of Control?
URLs and IP's have never been an issue though as many chat mods already allow you to copy them. But I see this as a better way of "chat logging" as your not logging EVERYTHING, just copying the few lines you want.
Will give this a try tonight! I would rather do this than have logging on for the few times I want to copy something from chat :)
How does it handle multiple chat windows if you don't mind me asking?

Dsanai saidChatSounds adds an item to the Chat Window's button (the one that also lets you change Chat Language, etc.) -- that would be a natural location for a clickable way to open the ChatCopy window, would it not?

DIE-HARD saidWoW! This is GREAT
You can select what channel's and other options you want to be able to copy and it creates a new chat frame that is highlight-able and copyable!
ROCK ON!
And this mod has NOTHING to do with websites or TS so the guy who made the comment about linkSnag really should have tried this to at least know what he was talking about!

Nescio saidFinally! I do not have to alt-tab, alt-tab, alt-tab, to set up my TS / Vent!
Suggestion: 1)I currently have this on a macro... but if you add a button to the chatframe that would be great! 2)Can you setup a regex to recognize links / ips and add another option just to view those?
Only complaint - I cannot move the window!

bitbiter saidJust a note: this addon is still under construction, meaning that it is a little buggy, but it fulfills its main purpose.
I like the idea about a button attached to the chat frame. I'll go right at adding that.
I'll also add a little Options frame with a few things you can set up. For example how many lines of chat are shown, how many lines are kept in memory while inactive etc...
I'm really looking forward to your reactions on the next version!! Keep adding ideas plz!!
