Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.
The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.
When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.
For more information, please visit us at http://www.gathereraddon.com/
USAGE:
Just use the game as normal.
When you gather things, they will appear on your minimap and your main map.
If you want to configure the addon, click the Gatherer configuration icon floating around your minimap frame or type /gather options.

Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Nechckn saidStik824,
In the most simple of terms, Gatherer recalls the locations of all herb, mining, and treasure nodes in the game after you have found them. That allows you to then plan to visit certain locations to find the items of interest to you.
Since the respawning of nodes is a system function, you still must enable the appropriate "tracking" skill, et cetera.
If you lose your data or want a pre-filled database, visit our main site, accessed via http://GathererAddOn.Com/dl/ where you can find a database mined from our friends at http://WoWHead.Com, along with the installation instructions. **As discussed in a previous post, not all nodes will contain an herb, ore, or treasure item all the time- the nodes are randomly spawned by the server, Gatherer simply allows you to visit the locales where such things spawn.
Gatherer and the GatherHUD are extremely configurable- allowing you to display or hide each piece of information available to you. We also provide message boards via http://Forums.Norganna.Org where you can find information, help, and insight from other users and developers alike.
Hope that clears things up,
Nikk

Crowdcontrol13 saidHey brandweath, just go into your gatherer options, and you can disable tracking for certain things, and im not sompletely sure but there should be a disable all together. There is also options to make the nodes on my map smaller, and to show less around you. Try those solutions =)

Nechckn saidBrandWeath,
See CrowdControl's response just above.
The nodes marked on the map and, or, HUD are where the game spawns the herbs and mining items. Those locales obviously do not continually have spawned goods- the game randomly spawns herbs and ore and we have no control over which spawn points the game picks- we can only point them out so that you have a better chance of finding the type of gatherables you want.
Via the options there are numerous settings to determine when and, or, if the nodes are displayed.
Hope you find some combination to meet you needs,
Nikk

osoma saidHello,
I just downloaded this addon and I think it's probablt the best one I have so far.
There is only one small thing that I think would be nice to add.
It's a search machine for the nodes list. FX I need gold... so now I need to scroll down the whole list but if I had a searcher it would be much faster. well or just being able to sort by: Type, zone or lvl :D
This addon has changed my playing permanently to the better.
Thank you

Nechckn saidOsoma,
The sort of functionality you envision actually used to be part of Gatherer but due to some major changes by Blizzard a rewrite was necessary.
Keep an eye on the next few versions for the return of such an ability. =)

mermaidhunter saidHi,
I am getting the following message when I first log in. I am currently running the most current version of Gatherer:

We need the full error, including the AddOn list.
While in game simply enter /swat show to see the older errors to obtain the rest of the information.
Based on only that bit of data, it looks like you are not running the current version, but only with that error text will we know for sure.
As one of the folks down the list commented, the Curse updater was not installing the current version for them. You may want to manually pick the most current version, 3.1.1, from the version list above and see if that does not fix the issue.
If, after doing that, you still see an error, then we will need the full error capture.
Thank you,
Nikk

Dragonprincx saidHi there, this is my first time getting this addon. Ok quick question: Is Gatherer HUD important to install to my addon list. Because when I open the Gatherer file, there are 2 things: Gatherer and Gatherer HUD. So is Gatherer HUD important or is it ok if I just leave it out. Also right now from what I can tell, this is going to be a good addon.

Nechckn saidHello DragonPrincx,
You do not *need* to include GathererHUD if you do not wish to do so, but would suggest that you install the module, try it, and then if you do not like it disable it via Gatherer's option panel.
The HUD allows you to see the nodes in a larger area on the screen- which is very handy if you are running around specifically mining, herbing, et cetera. The heat trail will show you where you have been and helps to ensure that you are not missing any of the nodes.
So, you can use Gatherer without the HUD but you will likely find it to be very handy. There are numerous options for the HUD, and Gatherer overall, that are quite self-explanatory, so be sure to read through them once you have installed and start the game. The options are most easily accessed via the SlideBar menu, which is installed by default just below the minimap, along the right side of the screen.
Wishing you plenty of gatherable nodes,
Nikk

Sieraj saidIn regards to: http://forums.norganna.org/discussion/6787/what-happened-to-the-range-on-the-hud/#Item_13
Any idea of when a fix for the HUD will be available, or is there an easy edit that can be made on the user's end to restore the HUD? In its current form, it's about as useful as bellybutton lint, which is a shame, as the HUD was extremely helpful.

Nechckn saidSieraj,
As noted in the discussion you linked, there are ways to expand the number of nodes shown, most easily by expanding those shown on the minimap.
As for the issue overall, there is no ETA when or if the range can be expanded with the current implementation. Keep an eye on the release notes here and via http://GathererAddOn.Com - those will reflect any changes pertaining to Gatherer and the GatherHUD.
**Also- since you have found the main forums, please feel free to post such questions there in the future. Though we endeavor to provide support where ever possible, the main forums certainly obtain more attention than these 3rd party sites.

jcseely saidI know the bug that caused the game to freeze when changing zones was fixed. However, it seems that Gatherer is causing my computer to freeze upon exiting WoW. I tried disabling it for a few days and the freezes went away completely. As soon as I re-enabled it, I got a freeze. Do you know what is causing this?
- +0
- Thumbs Down
- Thumbs Up
Nechckn saidJCSeely,
There is nothing that Gatherer does that should cause any issues when exiting- when entering the game, the time needed to load will go up a bit, but that is all. The issue with loading new zones had to do with the way that Gatherer was preparing data for the new zone- basically the opposite of the issue you are having.
Are you running any other AddOns? Does this "freeze" ever not happen?

jcseely saidNikk,
Yes I run lots of addons but it is definitely Gatherer. As soon as I turn it off my freezes go away completely. The freezes only occur when I actually try to Exit the game, not when changing zones or anything.

Nechckn saidJCSeerly,
Have been looking into a possible link but honestly have not found anything that causes what you are seeing within Gatherer.
Could you try disabling each of your other AddOns to see if that affects the disconnects- this could well be some sort of dastardly interaction between AddOns.
Will let you know if we find anything, please do the same.
Thank You,

Nechckn saidThunderclees,
The actual data for Gatherer, and all AddOns, is actually stored in the ..\WorldofWarcraft\WTF folder, while the "program" portion is stored in ..\WorldofWarcraft\Interface\AddOns.
If you only updated the mod, the "program" portion, then you still should have the data. We do recommend that folks take the step of backing up their WTF folders regularly, just in case there is ever any issue. With that back up all you would have to do is overwrite the new WTF folder of a new, complete World of Warcraft reinstall.
Note that we also offer a "database" of nodes from our friends over at WoWHead via our WoWHeadDB module- basically all of the nodes throughout the game. To obtain that database, simple visit our main site at http://GathererAddOn.Com/dl/ and grab the GatherDB addon and install that in the \WorldofWarcraft\Interface\AddOns directory. The rest of the importing instructions are linked right next to the GatherDB link on the download page. =)
Happy Gatherering,

drugz saidHey, first of all thanks for the great add on.. but I have one minor issue.
I really enjoy the minimap feature of Gatherer, but I have am starting to get somewhat puzzled as to why this orange-ish line appears on the actual ground setting of the game accompanied by a few herb and node symbols when I toggle on the Mini Map tracking feature. I know this is the issue because upon turning Mini Map tracking off, it goes away.
Here's a picture of what I am speaking about.. just curious if this is supposed to be a part of the add on / what's it purpose.. and is there any way I can remove it?
Picture: http://img388.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gathererku5.jpg
Thanks!
