Identity does the following:
1. Main name in Guild and Officer chat
2. Main Name in Channels 1 - 10 and BGs
3. Nicknames in Party and Raids
4. Your Zone Location in Channels
5. It saves the name per realm and per character, so you can have different nicknames and different mains for different realms or factions.
---
If your main character is a 60 Warrior named Tank and you are working on a new toon (level 10 Priest) called Healer, and both are in the same guild this addon would do the following:
Guild: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today?
Officer: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today?
If you turned the tell feature on and then whispered someone it would place (Main: Tank): after your Healer info.
If your name is WarNinja, but you like to be called Nin and you set your Nickname to 'Nin' then in paty or raid you'd see:
Party: [Warninja]: (Nin):
Raid: [Warninja]: (Nin):
I added the Zone function in response to the global Trade and LookingForGroup channels. It's sometimes nice to say where you are.
Enjoy!
Nox of Heaven and Earth
Apparently when I e-mailed it for installation it lost the Zip. Uploaded to fix that problem now that we can login again :)
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Ferusnox saidTolerant:
I began working on your request and then had a thought. You are not using the alternative name function and that's what's causing the city location to not show up in your text message. That being the case, why not simply set your main name as SW or IF or any other phrase or term you desire.
/id main Located in SW
[Trade]: Tolerant (Located in SW): WTS ...

Tolerant saidI have a couple of suggestions after editing the copy of this I use:
1) Make the location reporting work independant of the nicknames so it can be the only thing prepended into chat. I have no use for the nicknames, but selling enchants and portals is easier when showing my location in the trade channel.
2) Shorten the city names to take up less space, ie. (IF), (SW), (Shatt), (Darn) etc.
3) Also, not sure if I am missing something, but I dont see commands to enable diffrent channels for the Nickname AND main name. It seems to only have options to change one of those or perhaps both but not either or. - Although I dont use the names and edited the addon to simply not show them when prepending my location.

Ferusnox saidThe settings are per character. You should not have to or want to set you main name name for your main character :) You may, however, like me use a nickname for your main character.
My main toon is Ferusnox. His nickname is Nox, which actually is the nickname of all of my toons.
So I set main and nick to both be Nox.

xtremejg saidIs there a way to not have it display on my main? Kind of redundant in chats when my mains name is there twice. Or am I doing something wrong. Also for some reason after setting it up on my main, and then logging in on alt, I had to set it all up again. Does it not work for all characters at once? Great addon BTW!

Ferusnox saidI would love to create a Fubar module that tells the user on the fubar what the default main/nick is and then allows channels to be activated or de-activated, as well as, setting names and turning the addon off/on.
Been messing around with fubar, but just haven't had the time to get it to work yet. If anyone wants to make some suggestions of code, FAQs, templates etc. it would be greatly appreciated.

It's Itentity20300 instead of Itentity
No big deal I know (simply rename the folder to Identity in your AddOns),
but not all addon users are computer literate ;)

UltraNurd saidNot sure what the etiquette is here, but I rewrote Identity a while back for my guild, because people were using it but wanted some additional functionality and configurability. This is the first time I've exposed it to a wider audience.
I started my versioning at 2.0.

Nox, I hope we can work together on making Identity better. I don't know if would be best to fork the project or patch each other or what.

Ferusnox saidWould like to keep it all in one place if possible.
I have looked through 2.0 and there's a lot I liked. Didn't like some of the structure on the zone, and the format command is bound to cause constant headaches. I found numerous ways to cause the format change to crash.
Have incorporated modifications with some additional changes of my own.
If life ever gets slower, I would like to add a GUI. I believe the GUI would be the one way to let us control a change in format.
Also, I think the zone feature should be completely seperated from the [%s] format, which will also give additional flexibility.

pgl saidHello,
Just a quick note - there is a module for Prat that does something very similar to this, Alias:
Quote:
Adds the command /alias, which can be used to alias slash commands in a similar way to the Unix alias command (default=off).
Usage: /alias <command>[ <value>]
eg:
/alias /examplehello /say hello there
/alias examplehello

LadyDiamond83 saidYeah I would very much like the ability to turn it off in certain channels and leave it on in others. For example, have it turned off in the Blizzard channels (General, trade and the defense channels) and turned on in the player made channels I'm in and guild chat.
