NotesUNeed v6.50.20400 - Telic of Dragonblight (EU)

Feature-rich, searchable Notes database with many automated features, and additional NuN tooltips for viewing note details.

Make Contact Notes on other Players, or General Notes on anything else.

This AddOn is for making your own custom notes on players, and quests, and items, etc. and does not come with any pre-made notes.
It does provide an Export and Import Feature for sharing of sets of notes, or publishing of note databases.

There is no longer an "Alternative" version of NuN, and the default Modifier keys for creating notes from Container Items and Hyperlinks is now simply "<Alt>-Left Mouse Click". For anyone unhappy with this key-Combo, then they can now specify their own via the NotesUNeed Options frame.

Below is a summary of NotesUNeed functionality, but you should read the Readme.txt file for much more detailed discussion on these subjects.

Main Features of NuN
--------------------

1.) Create Player Notes (aka Contact Notes) :
- Create Contact notes :
a) using new NuN buttons in the Friends Frame
b) using the NuN Micro Buttons described in point 3
c) using slash commands
d) via new NuN options in the player context menu
e) Or via any of the automated methods mentioned below
- NuN can auto-populate many details about race, class, guild, etc.
- Also add your own free Text notes
- auto maintain Friend / Ignore Lists across different Alts
- auto-note people you Party with
- auto-note Guild members
- auto maintain notes on your own Characters plus Levelling notes
- Rate Players via Right click menu and see that Rating in Tooltips
or tagged to Player Names in Chat

2.) Create General text notes on anything you like :
- Create General notes :
a) via the Micro Buttons in point 3 below;
b) via slash commands;
c) use the NuN Modifier when clicking on Container Items or Hyperlinks
(Default "<Alt>-Left Mouse Click" but can be changed in Options)
d) importing from a Plugin database
e) receiving notes in-game from other NuN users
f) Or via any of the automated methods below
- Options to auto maintain Quest Notes which will save a few kinds of notes
a) Quest notes that record quest details plus Quest Giver name and location
b) Quest progress notes which record location when completing quest objectives
c) Quest History detailing when a given Toon Accepted, and Completed quests
- General notes can be saved at Account or Realm level
- Scripting - LUA scripts can be executed from General notes by :
a) Using the Run Script button in the frame
b) Slash command "/nun -x <NOTE_NAME>"
c) Execute one NuN Note from another NuN Note with the following command :
NuN_ExecuteNote("<Note Name>")
- General notes can be assigned the following Types for easy searching :
a) ITM - Item notes
b) QST - Quest notes, and quest objective notes
c) NPC - Notes made on NPCs and Mobs
d) LOG - NotesUNeed records Transmission logs when you send/receive notes
e) LUA - Keep your own in-game scripts library and execute notes like Macros
f) - or just leave blank ;p

3.) NuN has a MicroButtons panel with 4 buttons for quick access to features.
This frame can be moved by dragging the small border surrounding the buttons, and can be hidden if not needed (see slash commands). From left to right the buttons are :
- Options : toggle the NuN Options frame
- Note Browser : toggle the NuN Note Browser frame
<Alt> Left Click to browse General notes only
Right Click to browse Quest History
- Contact Note : create a note for the current target
will create a General note if current target is an NPC
<Alt> Click to re-open the last opened Contact Note
- General Note : create a General note
will create an NPC note if current target is an NPC
<Alt> Click to re-open the last opened General Note

4.) Note Browser Window.
This is where you can view the list of notes you have :
- default sorting is your Faction, then Opposing, then General Notes
- search for notes containing text you specify in the edit box
a) Left click : Case insensitive search
b) Right click : Case sensitive search
- filter visible notes from the Options Frame
e.g. to only show Quest Notes, or NPC Notes
- a tick indicates a General note is saved at Account level
- hover over a note to see its contents in a Tooltip
- Right-Click to open the sticky NuN PinUp Tooltip
- <Shift>Left-Click to paste the note name in to open chat box
- After filtering and searching to narrow down the visible set of Notes, you can :
a) Mass delete those listed in the browser frame
b) Export listed notes for other players to install and Import

5.) Options frame - open via the Microbuttons or slash command "/nun"
Configure NotesUNeed here, or filter the notes to appear in the Note
Browser frame. For example, to just look at NPC notes, or browse
Quest History for one of your Toons

6.) Backup and Restore functionality to save your database
This functionality is kept in separate LoadOnDemand AddOns to save memory.
Both the Backup and Restore processes will execute a ReloadUI()

7.) Import and Export of notes Databases
Share sets of notes with friends, or publish notes databases as a Plugin
for others to Import

8.) Broadcasting & Sending of NotesUNeed Notes
Broadcast Raid Instructions for Boss enchounters or PvP strategy, or
just your enchant selling menu; Or send formatted notes for other
NotesUNeed users to add to their database.

Slash Commands
______________

/nun : Toggles the NotesUNeed Options window

/nun -h : Displays this list of Slash commands

/nun <note title> : Will attempt the following :
1. Fetch a saved Contact note with that name
2. Fetch a saved General note with that title
3. Create a new Contact note if a player of that name is in your party/raid group or is within target range
4. Toggles the NotesUNeed Options window

/nun -t : Fetches the saved Contact note for the current target, or creates a new one, or shows your own characters note if no valid target. Since v2.00.1800 this command will create notes for NPCs and populate some basic information about them.

/nun -g : Creates a new General Note, untitled.

/nun -g <note title> : Fetches the existing General note with that title, or Creates a new General note with that title.

/nun -ch <name> : Create a Horde Player Character note for the given name without validating it
/nun -ca <name> : Create an Alliance Player Character note for the given name without validating it

/nun -tt : Toggle NotesUNeed Tooltips on/off

/nun -micro : Toggle the NotesUNeed Microbuttons panel hide/show

/nun -x <note title> : Tries to execute the specified note as a Lua Script. If no note exists, then will open the Note Search window

/nun -i <name> : to stop NotesUNeed trying to ignore a player

/nun -f <name> : to stop NotesUNeed trying to befriend a player

/nun -resetlists : to reset NotesUNeed's Friend/Ignore lists to those of the currently logged Alt

/nun -purgeexport : to clear Exported records and allow the creation of a newly named set of records

/nun -delay [number of seconds] : transmissions to channels have a default delay between each line being sent of 0.33 Use this slash command to change this value. Will report the current value if you do not pass any seconds value.

/nun -restrictwho : stops NuN from automatically trying to gather /who information

where -
"NOTE_NAME" = the name of the note or note title
"SEND_METHOD" = how to send the note e.g. "GUILD", "RAID", "WHISPER", "CHANNEL", etc.
"SEND_PARAMETER" = Optionally required (i.e. who to WHISPER to -OR- the Channel ID/Name)
NOTE: using any of these slash commands will close any currently open note.

    @starfloater

    NotesUNeed has a note search/browsing frame that lists all your notes. Notes can be opened and then use the Delete button on the note frame. The note will be deleted, and the next note in the search frame will be opened. (Simply pressing the keyboard "Enter" key is equivalent to clicking OK to confirm note deletion)

    From this frame, you might also be able to enter a text search for the Guild name, and then Mass Delete all the notes.

    The note broswer/search frame can be accessed by using the Browse button. One of the 4 micro-buttons.
    (i.e. the one with the magnifying glass symbol)

    Or by opening the NuN Options frame, and clicking the Search button near the bottom...

    Or by using the slash command :
    /nun [GUILD NAME]

    Okay I joined a guild and NuN did it's job and created notes for all the guild members. But now, I left the guild and I have the list of guild members still stuck in NuN.

    How can I just delete the Guild members that NuN automatically put notes in? I tried to look for a massive list that NuN might be saving on my computer so I could just delete from this list but I could not find a list NuN might be storing with notes.

    Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

    - Talent recording now works as intended ;p.
    Need to be within range when creating a new note, or using the "Target Info" button.
    Main NuN Tooltip for player will show talent summary.
    Talent details will be shown in a special tooltip when hovering over the Class box in the Note itself.

    Hi,

    When I use the quest notes function and I update the information by added the amount of XP reward I give it does save the information correctly. However, when it is a chain quest and I get the updated quest information from a mob. The text in NuN does not change to the most current quest I received from the mob. Is there an option that I may check to maybe 'update' quest information? For example,

    Let's say I get my first quest: 'StormWind City is in Trouble'. I would go into the notes editing feature in the quest log and added the amount of XP I would get rewarded when I complete this quest. Let's say the XP is 100XP. So, I update the NuN quest text log and save it.

    So, now my NuN quest log information says title: 'StormWind City is in trouble. Details: Give Letter to City Guard. (Manual Inputted information:) XP Reward 100.

    Now, when I compelete this quest I get the next step in the quest with the same title. The details to this quest has changed: Details: 'Kill Horde Monster'.

    NuN is not changing any information in my note. It looks like the information from the previous quest included the XP Reward I manually put in. It is not even appending the new information.

    Any help would be appreciated thank you!:)

    You said "... now my NuN quest log information says title: ..."

    Are you actually changing the Title of the Note ?

    If so, then NuN won't be able to append the details of the next leg in the quest.

    If you are only changing the body of the text and not the note title, then I'm not sure what the problem is.

    WoW can be a little bit quirky and is not always 100% consistent, so I can't guarantee that this feature will work for ALL quests. Are you finding this problem for ALL quests with multiple stages, or is it just this quest ?

    No, I was not changing the actually title of the quest, just the body.

    However, I apologize, I realized what it was. NuN has a maximum amount of text it can put into the notes, right? I didn't change that maximum character number. So, when NuN tried to append and it had already appended numerous chain quest information in the same note, it could not append anymore, it reached its limit.

    I just had to delete the previous appended information for NuN to fit the current chain quest information.

    - NuN will now try to record Talent tree details when collecting information.
    Players must be within range when you create the Note or use the Target Info button.
    This information will be detailed in the Tooltip when :
    a.) in the general Tooltip information for that Contact
    The main Talent description will be based on the branch in which the most points have been spent
    e.g. for a Shaman the description might read :
    Elemental 40-7-23
    b.) hovering over the Class button in the Contact note editing frame will give much more Talent details for that Player
    NOTE : NuN does not try to gather this information automatically for Party/Guild members.

    - fix to try and minimise the display of Contact tooltip details when hovering over General items with the same root name

    Ty Telic for the quick and informitive reply.
    I am probably the wrong person to give helpful feed back on your beta as i never used your previous versions. All i will say however from my limited testing i have not had an error msg or problem of anykind so on that basis it looks like a solid bit of coding you created. I hope more ppl give you feed back. Mine u if it was really buggy im sure there would be loads ppl telling u, so maybe that answers your question ;) Great job. thank you very much

    I could really use positive as well as negative feedback on the Beta from one of the 160 who have downloaded it.... ? :)

    No one has said anything... are the new features working flawlessly ?
    Or is there a bug as soon as you log in and no one is using it at all...?

    I just started to use your addon and it offers all the features i need and tons more, but there are a couple of things i cant make work.
    1. the delay sending each lime of a msg doesnt work, i just spam a wall of text
    2. each time i send a msg i create a log copy of my own msg. i have NOT checked the format box
    Any help would be great, then i can play around with all the other neat features

    Hi madpax,

    1. The message delay is only used when broadcasting notes in channels, as Blizzard limits the number of messages you can send to public channels in a short amount of time. If you send too much, then some messages can simply disappear in to the ether...
    So NuN uses the delay to throttle back the speed at which they are sent.
    However, there is no need to use the delay when Whispering, or sending to Guild, or Party, as Blizzard doesn't monitor these types of communication.

    2. NuN keeps log records of the last 9 notes that you transmitted, and the last 9 notes that you received. When you send a tenth note, then the transmission log #1 is re-used, so you will never have more than 9 log notes of each type (total 18 max.)
    These notes serve both as a useful history, and also as a debugging feature, so that when note transmission fails for whatever reason, the sender and receiver can compare log notes and help me find where the problem lays.
    Logs are created whether or not you are sending a formatted note or not.

    Don't forget to read "Whatever you do DONT READ THIS.txt" included in the Zip file - there are quite detailed sections on the different areas of NuN functionality.

    Telic, would you consider possibly adding PvP info to NUN, similar to what Opium used to do (tracking wins/losses and adding them to the tooltip)? I think that would be wonderful!
