DANCEMUSIC IS DISTIBUTED WITHOUT ANY SONGS. YOU WILL HAVE TO USE YOUR OWN SONGS.

So now we got that clear, lets start with the introduction ;-).
Dancemusic is the first addon I wrote, mainly to get a feeling of how making addons works. It's purpose is simple. When you do the /dance emote a song will start playing and the song will stop when you start moving again. The song that is played is selected by your race and gender. Note that the song only plays for you. Other players will not hear it!

For an idea on how it looks see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgK6GmG2OTU

You can enable/disable dancemusic in-game with the "/dancemusic on" and "/dancemusic off" commands.

To add your songs you will have to place them in the "<warcraft>/Interface/Addons/Dancemusic/Music" folder. The song should be an MP3 song. The name of the files should be in the form "<race><gender>.mp3". So for a human male character it would be "HumanMale.mp3".

For inspiration on songs to use you can browse around YouTube a bit for the WoW dance videos. I really like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=066_q4DIeqk

Personally I always edit the songs a bit so they loop nice (cut it at the right place and fadeout). Audacity is a nice free package for that.

Hope you enjoy the addon as much as I do.

Does this addon work for patch 2.4?

  • April 11, 2008, 09:39PM (1 month ago)

Great Addon, but I miss not hearing songs played when my buddys dance. Could it perhaps be made so that I hear the song I have on my PC, when buddy dances and is targetet ? In that way u could get around the mess when many players dance at once. if none is targeted your own char's music would play.

If you folks are looking for a list of songs to match most of the dances, here's a YouTube video I found to show the matching music/video for each dance it shows, plus a list of songs (see description).

    Great work very nice Addon.
can you add stop musik for other movementkeys like left and right mousebuttons or autorun key please
P.S. works great on German Client too
P.P.S. it would be great to hear sound when other Players Dance or another music if a druid changes forms (twist for tree of life) as well

I will take a look at the extra movement keys. I hardly use the mouse to move so didn't think of it :-)

Hearing the sound of other players has few problems:

    • You will never be able to hear the song that the other player has on his PC. Only the song that you set for that race+gender.
    • Wow will only play one song at the time, so if someone else starts to dance, your own song would stop. Also this would mean a total audio mess when multiple players start to dance around the same time.

Because of these issues I won't be implementing the hearing other players feature.

I like the idea of having different songs for the druid forms. I have to fire up my druid again to see how I can make that happen, but I am going to give it a go.

BTW, nice to know it wlaso works for other languages since that is something I can't test.

    it doesn't work,
I did this "/dancemusic on", and it said "DanceMusic is enabled"
    I typed "/script DanceMusicDebug=true", and "/dance" after
and it said : "Dancemusic_DoEmote DANCE"
    "Start song: BloodElfFemale.mp3"

and I don't hear the song I put in "World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\DanceMusic\Music"

    what did I do wrong?

  • Feb. 21, 2008, 07:30PM (2 months, 3 weeks ago)

It seems like you did nothing wrong. I am not sure what is happening here :-(
Could you try to type (copy-paste) the following in the chat window:

    /script PlayMusic("Sound\\Music\\GlueScreenMusic\\wow_main_theme.mp3")

This will play the standard WoW loginscreen music. This works even without DanceMusic installed. If you don't hear the WoW music check your sound levels in the "Sound & Voice" menu. Make sure that the Music slider is not too low.

If you do hear the WoW music, but not your own file then WoW does not like your MP3 file for some reason. To verify this download this MP3 file, I have tested it and I know it works in WoW. If you also can't hear this file then I am running out of ideas.

Could you post the platform you are running on (Mac/Windows) and if you use a localized version of WoW.

Does this work at all for Night Elves? I tried every name configuration I could think of and it won't work for my NE hunter.

I just made a male nightelf testchar (only tested it on my female nightelf char before) and it worked fine for me. Could you check the following things?
    - Is the addon enabled in the WoW addons screen for the character?
    - Is DanceMusic on? Type /dancemusic in the chat window to check that. It should default to on.
    - Normally I would say make sure that you spelled the filename right, but you already did that :-)

If that does not fix it type the following in the chat window "/script DanceMusicDebug=true" and then do the /dance emote. You should get a message with the filename it tries to play.

Also some additional information that could be usefull:
    - What language is your WoW client?
    - What platform are you on (Windows/Mac)?

Post back with this info to see if we can fix it.

You named the file NightelfMale.mp3 or NightelfFemale.mp3 right?

Check the filenames text file for other races, but the format is simply RaceGender.mp3

  • Feb. 19, 2008, 01:11AM (2 months, 3 weeks ago)

yes I named it both NightelfMale.mp3 and NightElfMale this is funny seeing as how my mage's song is just named HumanMale and it works fine.

It seems to work now. I guess Curse had some problems with the downloadservers or something.
