sick of hunting for and installing all of your favorite WoW addons every day?
sick of using sketchy, bloated addon installers?
most of the popular addons have their most current version available in a ZIP file whose name never changes, which is exactly what this program is for.
simply add the URL of the ZIP files and update them all, quickly, with one-click.
- what is wow AddonUpdater ?
this AddonUpdater is meant to be a simple, no-fuss, addon upgrader.
with this program, you can update some of your favorite addons with like one-click. well 4 i guess... if you count the doubleclick to open it & the click to close it.
(NOTE: it does not delete old installations, it just overwrites them)
- what addons can i update with this ?
the only addons that you can upgrade with this program are ones that you can download from a URL that never changes. this is every addon @ http://files.wowace.com and also like http://zip.norganna.org/
i admit that getting the URL of the zip file from wowace.com takes a bit of work.
- how do i get these URLs ?
since i'm lazy you will have to find the URL of the ZIP by yourself. but this only has to be done once for each addon.
for WoWAce addons, just do this:
- goto http://files.wowace.com/ find the addon you want
- right click it's download link select 'Copy Link Location' or whatever
- paste that into the address bar and take off the filename part so like w/ decursive, http://files.wowace.com/Decursive/Decursive-r55915.zip becomes http://files.wowace.com/Decursive/
- scroll to the bottom and 'Copy Link Location' (or whatever) of the ZIP file with no version number. This is always the current version. like http://files.wowace.com/Decursive/Decursive.zip
- AND just paste the link to that ZIP into the addon updater

eNTi saidnifty idea, but shouldn't the curse updater do this kind of stuff? maybe you could work with the curse guys to integrate your updater's feature into their installer? you'd certainly get my vote for that.

Guillotine saidTechnically, these features are not really needed in the CurseClient :)
aceaddons.curse.com has the exact same files as files.wowace.com. So the CurseClient does update those.
The one thing this program does that the CurseClient doesn't is allow you to download from other sites (like Norganna). We made a distinct decision NOT to include this, as we don't believe it would be very kind to use up other site's bandwith without their permission.

DROPZONEofSKYWALL saidwhen downloading like this, most likely, you are installing the latest Beta version of an addon. so technically they are not guaranteed to be 100% working i suppose.
curse's installer updates when the owners update their project's page on curse.com; which is usually when a new version is totally ready.
but for some addons, people seem to want the absolute latest version; which this program is great for.
