Startup
There are five different ways in which you can start Armory.
- /armory
- /ar
- Bind a key in the key bindings section e.g. shift-a
- Use Titan or FuBar integration
- Use the minimap button
Data Collection
Once Armory is enabled as a WoW add-on it will scan and keep track of your playing character's data. But some information can only be reached when you actually open a game window. Before you do so Armory will not be aware of any information contained in it. Game windows concerned are the bank, mailbox, AH and your skill windows (i.e. professions). Once opened Armory will contain their data.
Fast Search
To search the database without opening Armory you can use "/ar find" from the command-line. The syntax is:
/ar find all | item | quest | spell | skill [namepart]
where you should choose one of the search types "all", "item", "quest" "spell" or "skill",
e.g. "/ar find item boots". If you omit the search type "item" will be assumed, .e.g. "/ar find
item boots" is the same as "/ar find boots". To search all occurrences of the phrase
"spell" you need to specify "/ar find all spell".
You can also search for multiple name parts, e.g. "/ar find boots for" will find "Boots of
Foretelling" and "Reinforced Mail Boots". To search an extact phrase you need to put
quotes (single or double) around it, e.g. "/ar find 'boots of for'".
Navigation
Just below the portrait there are two small arrows that enable you to browse forward and backward through your characters. In the key bindings section you can define hotkeys for both functions. At the right-hand side of the portrait you can push a dropdown button to access a character selection menu.
Equipment Comparison
If you see an equipment tooltip in game, you can press the Alt key to get a comparison tooltip with the equipment of the selected character. If you use for example Alt-PgUp and Alt-PgDn as navigation hotkeys you can easily browse through the equipment of all your alts while comparing.
Information Sharing
You can lookup quests, recipes and character information (limited to gear and build) of other characters. The command "/ar lookup" will open a window just for this purpose. To communicate with other Armory users, Armory needs to use one of the available channels. Most usable are group channels, so you can "ask within the guild" or "ask within the raid", but you can also target someone to communicate directly. Note that when you look up character information you don't need to target someone, because you can still use one of the group channels to communicate. In this case you just enter the name of the character you want to inspect (this can also be name of an alt of the person who is online, as long as that person didn't block alt revelation for privacy reasons) and use a group channel you currently share. If this person is a guild member for instance you can select the guild channel to connect to this person's Armory. The lookup window will only show the channels available to you.
One special note about quest lookups: when you lookup quests you can specify an area as well as a quest name (part). In the first case all quests that a character has in that area will be returned.
Guild Bank
Armory Guild Bank, AGB for short, is a separate add-on that enables you to view the Guild Bank contents anywhere in game. You need to visit the Guild Bank once and open all tabs. This will create an initial snapshot of each tab. Once this is done AGB will keep itself updated by exhanging information about tab changes between other guild members who also run AGB. This means that if someone else visits the Guild Bank and makes a deposit for instance, your AGB will be noticed about this change and will update its contents automatically.
You open the Guild Bank with the command "/ar guildbank" or "/ar gb". Please note that sometimes it takes time to retrieve the item information from the game server. Usually after a refresh (reopening the tab) AGB will show the missing item names.
If you disable the sharing module in Armory you can only use the snapshot feature of AGB.
Options
Armory's options are set by using the configuration panel. To access the options panel type "/ar config" or select it from the Interface option in the game's main menu. When using Titan or FuBar integration or the minimap button (by default disabled if you use the toolbar integration) some options are also available in the icon's context menu. Use "/ar help" to get an overview of available commands.
Maintenance
There are some command-line options you can use to delete characters from your database:
|
/ar delete all |
Deletes all characters in the database. The playing character will be rescanned. Example: /ar delete all |
|
/ar delete realm [name] |
Deletes all characters that belong to the specified realm. If [name] is not provided the current realm will be assumed. If the playing character is part of the realm deleted, it will be rescanned. Example: /ar delete realm MyRealm (case sensitive) |
|
/ar delete char [name] [realm] |
Deletes the specified character from the database. If [name] is omitted the playing character will be deleted first and then rescanned. If [realm] is not specified the current realm will be assumed. Example: /ar delete char MyChar MyRealm (case sensitive) |
Tips
- You can copy an item's name into the search box of the inventory and guild bank frame by alt-clicking a bag item or an item link.
- You can define several shortcut keys in WoW's key binding interface.
- If you have a "secret" guild character (i.e. not known as one of your alts) you should not reveal its relationship by clearing this option in the "Sharing" option panel for this character.
- Lookup and Guild Bank windows can also be opened through a context menu (toolbar and minimap button).
- You can delete an alt (not the playing character) by right-clicking its portrait and a pet by right-clicking the pet slot.
Localization
Currently Armory only supports the English locale, but it is written with localization in mind.
If you want to translate Armory you have to create a localized version of the "Localization.lua" file that can be found in Armory's install directory (see http://www.wowwiki.com for more details about localization). Send me a copy if you like your work to be included in a next release. But please test it thoroughly first because it will be likely that I don't understand a word you're writing and can't make changes when things won't fit for example.

Aizotu saidI'm finding some issues with this addon. I have an addon called LightHeaded. With Armory installed and running, I get some issues where it causes LightHeaded to not have the ability to navigate pages with in it's quest detail and comments info. If you're not familiar with LightHeaded, it's an addon that put's an extra frame attached to your quest log off to the right of your quest log frame. In the LightHeaded attached frame, there are paging buttons where you can page left or right in the LightHeaded frame to get to more information. When I page right a few (next page button), Lightheaded immediately pages back to page one.
When I remove Armory, this issue goes away. Immediately.
Another thing that I'm noticing, is that with Armory installed and running, for some reason I occasionally lose control of my mouse. Most often when my mouse cursor is in the center of my screen and I hold down a left mouse click to look around my self. The loss of control, really is just that it seems like, while holding my Left Mouse button down, WoW think's I've let go of the left mouse button when I haven't. I'm still holding it down and my screen resets to looking ahead of where I'm going rather than letting me just look around still. I have to release my left mouse button, then look around again. The nasty thing about this is that it can be a real pain to look around as the loss of mouse control or WoW thinking I'm not left clicking can occur like, 10 times in 5 seconds, click drag, click drag, click click click drag, click drag.

Warmexx saidRegarding LightHeaded you are the second person mentioning it to me. See my comment below (@ mystikdoubt). I just installed it again and didn't experience any problems. I'll install it on another PC too and keep it running for a while.
I can't reproduce your second problem also and couldn't get it confirmed when asking around.
I tried to figure out what could be causing your problems but I can't think of anything.

UED77 saidOn my installation, it does not save the contents of the regular bank. In the inventory tab, everything is populated, including bank bags, but not the 28 primary bank slots. Once the character visits a bank, they become populated, but upon logging out, they are never saved and upon next login they will show up as empty.
Not sure why my setup is acting up, I disabled Armory, installed BankItems and that saves them properly. Of course, I prefer Armory much more. I did notice however that the contents of the bank were never saved into SavedVariables. The slots do populate themselves upon visiting a bank, so from that I reasoned it's a state save problem. Once again, I do not have other addons running during these tests.

Warmexx saidYour problem is very weird. When you see the bank contents in Armory just after you visited the bank it means that the data is stored in memory in the appropriate container. Doing a reload or logoff WoW saves the tables in memory to disk. This is an implicit process. So how is it possible that the data exists in memory but not on disk? Does this happen for all your characters by the way?

UED77 saidArmory is an extremely feature-rich addon, your efforts are much appreciated!
That being said, it does not want to save the bank contents -- just the 28 primary bank slots, all bank-bags are saved. More precisely, the Armory interface reacts to changes in the bank, but the state of the bank is not saved and shows up empty after logout, even if viewed with the same character later.
I checked the Armory.lua file in SavedVariables, and couldn't find any trace of the bank itself. This is the only addon I currently have installed, and am running Armory v4.3.2 with WoW 2.4.3

Warmexx saidI do not quite understand what you are saying here. Aren't you confusing the regular bank with the guild bank? The bank items are shown in the inventory tab.

Xephrix saidI am not entirely sure why it's doing this but, every time I open up a vendor window, my entire game lags for a bit before opening it and my Armory's memory usage skyrockets up to 20-30+mb. Is there any reason or fix for this?

Warmexx saidArmory reacts on certain events that are raised in game. I don't control when this happens. I do know that some other addons also react on the same events. To be absolutely sure that Armory is causing the delay you should temporarily disable all other addons and see what happens. Also make sure you run the latest version of the suite. I can assure you that Armory has no specific coding aimed at vendor windows. It could be that tooltip counts cause a delay. You can easily check this by disabling this option in Armory.

mystikdoubt saidDont know if this issue has been brought up or if its just me but i think it might be conflicting with lightheaded reseting the comment page to page 1 anytime i try to switch pages "This is due to another addon scanning the quest log OnUpdate, which it has absolutely no business doing, and I can't provide a good "fix" for it in LightHeaded. Typical addons that cause this are Armory and older versions of QuestHelper." thats from the lightheaded forum

Warmexx saidNo, I wasn't aware of this. To check what you mean I installed LightHeaded and I didn't find any problems. I was able to browse through the pages, but I'm not sure if this simple test is enough.
You can always disable Armory's Quest Log module in the configuration page.

Sytar saidI seem to have a problem with the Guild Bank portion. It will not allow me to look at any of the other guild banks other then first one I opened.
From looking at it after trying some different stuff, it looks to be that the drop down is not working for Guild list, and it will only show the previous logged in characters guild. Not the current guild.

Sytar saidYes, I made sure to open each tab, and ever wait a while in case there was lag issues. The enitre bank is visable, but only for the previous character I was on.
I got the latest version off of here, and this is the first time I have tried to use this mod. ArmorySuite_v4.3.2.zip

Quadling saidTotal Gold for All Characters NOT Correct.
When I add up Armory's reported total gold for each individual character, that sum is higher, by around 92 gold, than the "total gold" shown when I mouse over the gold field.
Addition problem?

SmuvMoney saidI noticed an incompatibility with Hemlock, which is an Ace-based rogue poison addon. Hemlock allows you to buy and then create said poisons while at a poison vendor using buttons on the merchant window (first click will buy - second click creates as many as specified beforehand). Armory doesn't stop me from buying the items using Hemlock (first click). However, it prevents me from making more than one poison at a time when I click the second time. It won't let Hemlock create the X amount of poisons you had bought mats for. I would have click the Hemlock button again and again to create the poisons desired. I tried this with just Hemlock and its libraries and Armory enabled. As soon as I disabled Armory and reloaded the UI, Hemlock worked again without issue.
