Market Memory

The beginning

Recently I decided I needed an addon that would collect data on items i selected and allow me to view the data for that time period at a later date, specifically on a graph. The idea came from the Market Data, available inside the EVE online game. I figured that for WOW, this would be pretty handy, I could easily watch the trends of items and their prices, allowing me to decide when to buy and when to sell easier, for long term buys anyway. The problem came when I couldn't find one. I spent over 30 hours total, looking around for an addon that did something even remotely similar to that. I thought it was rediculous that no one had done anything close.

Eventually I found a website, the site contained information on the general trend of certain items, but it only covered Alliance side (not an issue for me because most of my characters are in fact alliance.) On top of that it also only covered certain servers (mine not being one of them,) and it was hard to get just the data for one server, because most of the time the data was merged and somewhat innacurate. So after this dissapointing little event I decided I would just make my own addon.

Another problem arose though, I didn't and as of this point, still dont fully understand Lua (the programming language in which addons are written.) I grasp the basic concepts, but I dont have the knoledge or skills to create such an addon, all I really have, is some experience as a graphic artists (mostly logos and buttons really) and a few programmer friends (none of whom know Lua.)

I had two options at this point, I could learn the language (which would take months, and valuable WOW time, and that is just to learn the language, not even thinking of the time it would take to actually make and test the addon,) or I could ask someone else to do it.

Of course I chose the second option, as it did seem that it would be faster. So I left a comment on the creatior of Auctionator (as it seemed like a good part of the work was already done in the fuctions of that addon, all that needed to be added was exporting the data to a file that wouldn't change when the addon was updated, and adding a graphing bit that would take the exported data, read and display it.) The creator politely informed me that it was not currently in the plans of Auctionator, and that he wanted his addon to remain realtively simple to read and use. I can respect that, if the addon is too complicated to use, then people wont like it, and fat lot of good it did to make it.

However, this did put a third option into my brain. The addon still needed to be made, what if I could get one or more people to HELP me make it, what if I got a Lua programmer that had worked with AH addons before. So that is why I write this now.

Im looking for people who would be interested in assisting me make this addon. People with experience with lua, and preferably people wtih AH addon writing experience. Comment or PM me if you are willing to help, or are interested. I think this could be a marvelous oportunity.

About the addon:

Needs too:

*Allow players to "tag" an item. Tagged items are then checked for pricing information (highest, lowest, average, most common, and middle,) when the player opens the auction house.

*Export the collected data to a file containing all that information, the date and time checked.

*Then allow players to click another AH tab or some button, and review that data in graph form, displaying the information for various dates, offering a 1 week information panel, a 2 week information pannel, a month information pannel, and a year information pannel.

*Tell the difference between Alliance, Hoard, and Neutral AHs, and separate the data accordingly so that the most accurate data is given.

*Be compatable with other AH addons (auctionator, auctioneer, auctionmaster, and more)
