Usually these files contain harmful files such as key loggers and Trojans.

On the other hand, it also is a demonstration of why these kinds of problems are not likely to go away anytime in our life time. No virus scanner is going to be 100% effective, it can only detect things it has been instructed to look for.

Which means that with just about every virus running around on the internet(even the ones virus scanners check for now). There was a time period of at least hours, but more than likely days/weeks or even months, where none of the anti-virus or computer security entities that exist had encountered it, nevermind having identified it.

What Curse-Gaming is saying is that while they do take precautions to make sure their hosted content is safe. That doesn't mean that malicious programming can't find its way onto Curse, or anywhere else, during that "golden hour" before the virus/spyware has been identified and counters have been made available for use.

If you want to make sure your system is safe, don't rely on Curse-gaming, ui.worldofwar.net, cosmosui.com, ctmod.net, wowace.com, or wowinterface.com to be your computer's one and only line of defense. Get an anti-virus service and scan your system regularly and make sure you also have the most recent virus definition files available.

I would just add to his comments about having/updating anti-virus....for gods sake...get a firewall too!! If you don't know how to set one up, ask someone. Plenty of gamer out ther will be more than happy to lend a little helping hand to do that I think.

I would also note that downloading an add-on that is a executable ".exe" file should be throwing up a HUGE red flag in itself, regardless of the intentions of the add-on author.
