Ashbringer Comic #1 Preview

Blizzard has published a preview of the Ashbringer comic. So far the sneak peek feature seven different comic strips which you can view below!

As the Lich King's plague of undeath ravages the human kingdom of Lordaeron, a mighty blade is forged from a dark orb. In the hands of Highlord Alexandros Mograine, the blade will become legend. In time, both blade and man will become... Ashbringer.

In anticipation of the upcoming World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King expansion, Wildstorm and Blizzard Entertainment have created a four-issue miniseries chronicling the Ashbringer’s tale, written by Blizzard’s Micky Neilson and featuring art by Ludo Lullabi and Tony Washington. Blizzard just now posted a sneak peek of the newest World of Warcraft comic book series issue #9, which will arrive in stores July 16.

. Lo'Gosh, Valeera, Broll, and Thargas make their way to Ironforge via a circuitous route through the Wetlands. And back in Stormwind, Prince Anduin suspects all is not as it seems with his father, King Varian.

We do not have any new content planned prior to Wrath of the Lich King. Our efforts are focused on creating new content as a part of the expansion and to change our focus to add content prior to it's release wouldn't be productive. The Sunwell is considered the final part of what we wanted to release (content wise) for Burning Crusade. So what you stated above is where we're at. We're happy with the content that is currently in the game and available. We are also now focused on creating new content that will be added in with Wrath of the Lich King. In many interviews we've even stated that we plan out content releases as a part of our expansions. We plan out the pacing of the content (which we have tried to improve upon with each release) and do our best to make sure that it's the highest quality each time.

There are many interviews with our designers and producers that reaffirm this information. We've had content planned out for a long time in advance. All we're doing now is moving to the next portion of our development we've had planned for the game. We're not abandoning content in favor of the next best thing. We've completed our content for the Burning Crusade and are moving on to Wrath of the Lich King as a matter of planning. We haven't been arbitrary in how we are doing things.

1. Lack of new content and summer weather are leaving raids short handed.
2. Stagnation of new content is causing some members to jump to "more hardcore" guilds in the hopes of seeing more of Sunwell.
3. Lack of new content and lack of community goals is dragging down morale and general interest in the game.
Guilds go through this during holidays, summer, etc. I understand the frustration that goes with wanting your guild to be more active right along side of you, but it always gets better as we get back into the end of summer.

Release WotLK fast or give us a definite release date.
We're just not ready yet and we're not going to release it until it's ready. It would be just as detrimental to your guild for them to come back in force for an expansion that wasn't ready for them. We can't give you a release date either. All I can say is that we are making very good progress and are getting there, but we're not there just yet.

1. Are you guys planning to release the talents for WOTLK before WOTLK like you did with BC? Or is this something that isn't decided yet? Pre-TBC with the 41 point talents was a lot of fun.
2. Any chance we could see a decrease in the experience required to level from 60-70? Even if it were just for the few months before WOTLK, this would probably encourage people to level more alts. The 1-60 changes were most welcome! I finally leveled another character, and it was much less painful than the first time around.
3. Will arena points carry over from 70 to 80?
I can't answer 1 and 3 for you just yet. When we can, we'll do our best to give you as much information on it as possible.
On #2, there is a chance, but I'm not aware of any particular plans for this at this point in time. Much like we changed leveling from 20-60, it's possible we could look at other things we can do to ease leveling in other spots where we think it needs it.

Neth, do you have any info that you can share about Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor areas that are receiving upgrades in WotLK?
As a part of Wrath of the Lich King? Hrm... I can't say of anything in particular in the old world that is getting upgrades as a part of the expansion. Although, some players have noticed a bit of construction that is happening in Stormwind (as evidenced in the PTR.)
Much like what we did with Dustwallow Marsh, any updates would be done when we felt we could get in the time and make it worthwhile for the players. That said, it doesn't preclude this from happening at some point in time. We'd like to improve some of the old world areas where we can, but we don't have specific plans at this time.

As can be seen in the updated list, the order of the top 10 teams has changed pretty significantly since yesterday. “Play Hard go RNG” having taken the lead with an 8 point buffer over “PLASMA TV INC” in just a single day just shows how viable it still is for anyone to qualify for the regional finals.

Soulbound items transfer from one character to another? (src)
At this time we do not have any plans to alter the functionality of soulbound items. Essentially you're asking that we remove the soulbound requirement on Marks of Honor. This limitation was set in place primarily to prevent the type of activity in which you wish to take part.

1. Will there be new realms with the launch of WOTLK and if so will they be non-transfer ones?
2. Will there be any new realm types coming? (Example different then RP,RPPvP Normal and PvP)
3. Will we see any new realms this summer to have to to level to 70 before WOTLK?
New realms are released as we feel they are necessary and we don't normally announce them ahead of time. I can't answer any of the above since they are all contingent on timing based need. If we end up needing more realms, we'll create them based for the specific purpose they need to fill. (src)

Naxxramas in Wrath of the Lich King

Naxxramas is planned to be more of an entry level raid dungeon in Wrath of the Lich King and not the hardest dungeon in the game, so things will be a little different this time around. We have not made a final decision on an attunement yet, we like having special quest lines available and such, but we also like having content be more available to players.

Item Design Information

Contrary to popular belief (?) designing a new item set does take a while. We usually use color shifts on the same designs to save time, the exception to that would be the arena sets where we want the items to specifically match the PvE counterparts. The choice to color shift is usually when an item isn't something that would benefit from having a unique model, usually a leveling item. In the case of the badge rewards I can see the reasoning to use color shifts for the level of investment taken to acquire them. Is buying an item with badges the same as clearing Black Temple? No, no not really. So, it isn't so horrible if a shift is used.

What I find odd is that in this particular case we seem to have gone against what would normally be shifted, which is the matching dungeon items, and instead shifted from a previous dungeon's/quest items. My only guess is that those shifts were already done, or the artists preferred them to the new design.

Now that the entirety of the art department's is focused completely on Lich King I don't find it surprising that their time spent invested on the badge items were color shifts. The level of quality of the environments, items, textures, models, etc. in the next expansion are far and above better than anything in the game thus far, so I definitely understand the desire to focus as much time of their time on them as possible.

2.3.3 PTR Patch Notes

There will be another bug fix patch prior to 2.4, the official European WoW site has been updated with new test realm patch notes:

General

* Loading times have been improved slightly for characters newly entering the world.

Bug Fixes

* Felspine the Greater in Shadowmoon Valley will no longer evade when engaged.
* Guttripper in Nagrand will no longer evade when engaged.
* Players will now be correctly credited with their arena points if they purchase an arena item during weekly arena calculations.
* Using a castsequence macro on a target moving out of range will no longer cause it to stop working.

World of Warcraft comic preview

The first few pages of the brand new self-titled World of Warcraft comic have appeared thanks to an exclusive at mtv.com.

The comic is being written by Walter Simonson and published by Wildstorm, an arm of DC Comics. The writer has said that the comic will stay true to the game and so far, those who have had the sneak peaks have said it does a better job of being loyal than most adaptations do.

The first full issue of the World of Warcraft comic will be appearing in all good or otherwise geeky book stores this Wednesday.
