Warcraft Movie Gets Title - Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King

For those of you that have been waiting for more news on the Warcraft movie, it's finally here! Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures recently updated the entry for the movie on IMDb.

What's in the update, you ask? They've decided on a title and story. The movie will be called Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King. It will probably follow along with the recent Christie Golden novel and tell the tale of Arthas as he progresses from childhood to, well... one of the most powerful villains Azeroth has ever seen.

It's only been a few months since it was announced that Sam Raimi would direct the movie, and albeit not surprising since he really is a 'golden-boy-gone-wrong' tale worth turning into a movie, I'm very excited to hear more about this now that we have a title.

Who do you think would fit playing the major characters involved in Arthas' childhood and his march toward darkness? Jaina? Uther? A young Varian Wrynn? King Terenas? Antonidas? Who else could we see? If you check out the Arthas: Rise of the Lich King entry on WoWWiki, there are a ton of different characters references in the novel.

ROFL learn to spell Bladeyama, and Ron Howard is a piss poor director choice for the movie. And it could be worse, it could have been Uwe Bol

If the movie sucks blizzard will not allow them to release it.  They could have found someone other than a TV show director to direct the movie.  Why go with crap when you could have the best.  With the director and movie company the movie wont be released.  GET a better director and movie company.  Lukus arts and Ron howard or someone famus

I hope this will be a awesome movie...

I read harry potter books and saw their movies...

the movies had 50% less story than the books.

I hope the Lich King movie won't be like that

Even if its a movie based on a book i think it'll turn out fine because come on lords of the ring turn out pretty good and blizzard isn't stupid enough to make it suck

movies based on books....never turn out the way your imagination views it.

:( this would be an awesome movie.. but to make it epic.. it would have to be at least 2 and half hours long. I would sit thru it if it was made as best as possible.

Add in the fact that the story that the movie is following is something thats movie worthy. So I will be looking forward to this.

Movies made on the basis of games have often been horrible, but this will be directed by Sam Raimi and not by Uwe Boll so I'm somewhat more confident. :D

@ChiperSoft: I'm working on contacting for more info now. This is on a few major media sites (MTV as an example) so if it's not true then we'll know soon.

Do you guys have actual confirmation directly from Blizzard or Legendary that they submitted this title change?  IMDB is just a few authorization levels away from being a wiki, the data there has often been incorrect.
