World of Warcraft

LF girlfriend... literally

The title is a little misleading. I'm not looking for a girlfriend (although I never say never... call me?). Despite the fact that I'm not looking for a partner some people are and what better way to do that than through a social networking site or more specifically, a dating site? What about a dating site pitched solely at, you guessed it, World of Warcraft players?

Some enterprising individuals have decided that the near 10,000,000 people playing World of Warcraft need a dating site so that they can meet like-minded people from the comfort of their own... realm. The site, aptly named World of Datecraft, went live recently and has garnered a lot of media attention.

Datecraft works like most other networking sites but has a twist - it's dedicated to WoW players. Simply head to Datecraft and fill out the information they ask for, such as questions about your lifestyle, hobbies and other info that people need when doing this e-dating thing and sit back and wait for the /w's to start rolling in. You can even broadcast what type of guy/girl you are looking for.

Hurray! (And YES, many of the first users were "dummy" for testing purposes. Model Shots. Check...)

After more than a week of solid designing, coding, tweaking, and not sleeping, we're finally ready to open the doors for Beta Testers!

We're excited you're here and we hope that this site can be a fun-filled time-bandit for you!

We'd love your feedback and to hear your thoughts! We've go some space at the Forums to discuss, so head over there and hook us up with your suggestions, etc.

Also, please be aware that we've also have a Contest as well! Check it out Here for more details.

Finally, have fun and Tell Others!

World of Datecraft is an interesting idea for an interesting bunch of people - the WoW player base. Whether the idea will take off? Time will tell.

    Funny and scary at the same time. I guess with 10 000 000 people you basically have the audience of a country.

    If you're lonely (which seems somewhat likely if you're a hardcore raider, unless your girl friend is one too), I guess this serves a purpose. Always thought it'd be cool to date a gamer. Never met a female gamer myself. Maybe I hang out with the wrong crowd :P

    @ovidiu Maybe everyone isn't as superficial? :)

    In principle this is a good idea, but in practical application it's doomed. The WoW population is at least 80% male. Of that 20%, most of the women I've met were happily married home makers.

    Not that impressed with the site. It seems to be modeled after Match.com, which is simply the worst dating site out there. They shoulda used the OkCupid engine, it's free and proven to work.

    @ChiperSoft

    Actually, we didn't model it after match.com, but thanks for the try!

    OkCupid's engine works fine for what the particular people use it for. That's great for them.

    Finally, if you did any snooping around, you'd realize that we actually used the Official Wrath of the Lich King Fan Site Kit provided by Blizzard. You can find a copy here:

    @Datecraft,

    you made comments on everything Chipersoft said except the important facts that 80% of the WoW population is male. Please give your comments on that statistics, since if that is true, your site will be a fab.
    You probably though of this but instead of just marketing to WoW players, why don't you focus on the entire MMO industry and make portals for each major game and allow people to meet each other who play that specific game. Additionally this will allow people with muliple interests in WoW, Eve, hellgate London etc, to have more choice of people to meet.

    Btw Chipersoft actually gave you a compliment on the idea but all you read was his opinion on the tools used to develop the site.

    Again good idea but need to answer Chipersoft question unless you think there will be high return from male/male dating on your site.

    Anyway good luck!

    I'd just like to say that the 95% of all statistics are made up on the spot...
