New Mount and Vanity Pet Storage

Wryxian posted information about a nice new way of how mounts and vanity pets will be handled in Wrath of the Lich King.

We’re pleased to announce a convenient upgrade to the way that mounts and vanity pets are handled in Wrath of the Lich King.

Players will be able to “learn” a mount or non-combat pet much like learning a spell, recipe, or new ability, and these creatures will then show up on a new Pet tab within the Character Info section of the interface. Players will be able to access and preview their learned mounts and vanity pets through this tab.

Once learned, the pet icon or mount icon will no longer appear in bag spaces or bank spaces. This inventory space will be made available once again for other adventuring needs. Pets can still be set to hotkeys by dragging them to the hotkey bar, much like any other spell or ability.

    Useful. As a warlock, I'm used to mounts not taking up space. It'll be nice to not have my flyer take up space, either.

    Sweet I am up for this.. This is going to be a good change. I like having my pets but not when I am questing. Even taking up one bag slot is too much. It will also clean up banks!! Sweet. . .

    KOOL GREAT IDEA WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE YALL ADD A EXTRA BAG SLOT ON THE BAR SO WE COULD CARRY MORE BAGS. BAG SPACE IS A MUST HAVE WHEN QUESTING

    How? It just free's up bag space for the people that horde pets... Not really lame... it just rewards them for going "OMFG I WANT THAT GO AND GRIND IT FOR ME" and then i have to grind-...

    Wait...

    Does this mean you cant get pets for people?

    Sweet! Now if, like a few others suggested, it would be even better if we could have more bag slots on the bar. I can't wait!

    Not lame at all. Everyone's going to save at least two bag spaces. I always carry a land mount, a flyer and a single pet, so 3 for me. In real gold terms, that saves me spending >400G for another upgrade from 18 to 20-slot bag.

    Will be interesting to see how they implement it ofc, as pets are currently physical items you purchase, have made for you (eg. engineering, like my favourite mechanical yeti!) or simply drops. I guess similar to BoE, but then the item disappears and instead of something in your bag you know a spell now??

    As for those with dozens of pets (which is fine - everyone has their own obsessions ;) ) I'm sure they're using addons to keep track and hold them in bank space. That's their choice.

    Sounds like a good idea, i always liked the way, as a paladin or warlock, you were saved a bag space because your mount was a castable one.

    Might be worth having a few more mounts now :P
