Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

Vanguard Curse Client Support Discontinued

As of the next Curse Client version, the client will no longer support data collection for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. This was a difficult decision to make, but due to the time required to continually keep the client updated to work with the Vanguard client, the costs became too great for us to support with Curse.com's current website structure.

We have also had requests from players to release the source for the Curse Client so fans of the game can maintain the Vanguard portion of it. While we appreciate the offer, and would happily do this if it were viable, we cannot release the source of the Curse Client as it opens up the possibility of hacking -- something we are adamantly against and will not open doors to.

The Vanguard database itself will remain online for at least two months, and we're working for a longer term solution to this; we realize that the database has become a destination for many Vanguard players and while the client has become impossible to realistically maintain, we would like to keep the database itself up as long as possible so that Vanguard players have a resource to turn to.

We will make sure to keep everyone updated on the state of the database as we have more information to share.

In other news, Curse discontinues client support for a game no one plays.

Actually we're quite many that plays VG. Sadly vanguard was pushed aside by the tasteless WoW.

    Grave news indeed.

Actually curse "client" became popular because of VG, they offered to host the database to the real dev of this client that was oriented to VG only because he didn't have time to do it himself, now that they have him working for them and made a name on the internet (plaguing their website AND client with commercial adds) they just focus on WoW wich is bigger proffit, so the cost excuse is really poor, the reason is low proffit without a doubt.
I hope asp is paid at less.... .

Oh and to the curse team, you can shut down the database now, no need to wait, it is totally outdated anyways, most the items changed, maps aswell so locations are useless, even pseudo database websites that are in reality goldsellers websites are doing a better job than you.

At less it is not like we didn't see it coming the second asp arrived on curse, you made a poor search tool and immediatly started switching to wow totally ignoring VG.

Could you provide at least some basic info on how your client gathering information from VG Client? This can set a start for some independent project. We don't need your sources, just the understanding how.

What a shame. I thought this and along with the site to be a very good source, if not because of the database one of the best.
I guess the money and effort is best put into WoW.

I as MrChat, would like to get an understanding of how yougo about getting the data for the database?

gah. Please allow us tor continue this. The client might be hacked arleady .. i mean .. do you really know fo sure it hasnt? no one can.

The point being I am going to have to find a new database because you guys cant (or wont) ask for help and/or continue support. That is a wee bit retarded.

Also: WoW may bring in the big bucks fo you, but VG still has a following of loyal players

Still is listed as the third most active game on this site. But I guess there is a choice to make. The client and database is what I believe two big things that draws Vanguard visitors to this site, and therefore revenue from ads. Am I that wrong in this speculation. And by the example from below from visitors that know by reputation that Curse have good information on games other than what is "hot".

I'm quite shure that curse.com does not live or die by the Vanguard audiance, far from it. But I'm also shure that diversity is adding to the visitor count to this site.

But there is also the interest in actually provide good things for other games. That in the end draws in more and more visitors. Compare it to a shop would they only have things that are selling good and no shelfwarmers (or what to call it), well atleast things that sells less, the shop would be less and less interesting.

Choosing beetwen two shops the one with most to offer is the one most interesting even when there is only one thing that you are going to buy from it. And the occasional person that just walked into the store with the intentions to look but found something to buy out of impulse. That person won't go to the store with less shelfwarmers.

I do hope that curse continues to update the client for vanguard...but if not hopefully curse will release information on how they pull the information from Vanguard so the community has a chance to band together and create a new database....

*Keeping my fingers crossed for anything*
