Hello, my name is Earthcaller, and I'm a Feral Druid. I'm a PvE tank. It's what I do. It's how I enjoy this game.
I also love to PvP. There's nothing like two shotting some silly mage. (I'm looking at YOU, Skinnable) However, with the state of druids in Arenas, can one feral druid get both aspects of the game without sucking at them?
In short, no. But you can try your best. Here's how I've seen it.
I've been feral since level 10, and aside from a shot stint as resto (Thank god for Hugehoss talking me out of it) I've remained so and love every moment of it. I did recently respec resto for my very shitty Arena team (again, looking at YOU , Skinnable), since Resto Druid + ...well...any other class is supposed to be one of the strongest combos in 2v2/3v3.
Let's just say while that may be true, it isn't always so.
Before I get into this, lemme just say I've been doing arenas as feral since they came out. I enjoy it, even if my team loses pretty badly sometimes. Granted, some of our victories have been epic, it doesn't quite make up for the fact that I'm basically holding my team back. Pair a frost mage with any healer, and 1900+ ratings become cake. Give him a rogue and most teams drop. A warrior? Heh, let's not go there with their crazy burst damage and healing debuff.
So I decided that, on weekends when I'm not raiding, I'll respec resto. I mean I could use the s2/s3 stuff for tanking, and while I love feral, resto is a nice change of pace that'll challenge me.
Or so I thought.
Maybe it's my lack of gear (gogo kara healing gear in areans?) but I found trying to heal frustrating. Now don't go blaming my lack of skills. I know what my job is an arena: keep people alive, get away from danger, and CC to my heart's content. I've seen videos of awesome resto druids tearing it up in arenas, and I envy them. But when I'm specced feral, I found my team doing slightly better only because I'm so comfortable with it, and I actually feel like I'm contributing to bring down the other team.
But can a team with a feral druid really get to the top of the arena rankings? Or are we all supposed to spec Resto to remain viable?
